I know, I've said it multiple times but I want to put it out there again. Reporting > Screenshots.
There are a couple of places where it's impossible to report without using a screenshot which is unfortunate. However practically everywhere else has something you can work with.
Private Messages - Every single one of these can be reported by clicking the "Report" link (it's supposed to be a button so may change in the future).
Threads - Every thread can be reported by scrolling to the very bottom and clicking "Report This Thread".
Posts - Every individual post can be reported through the "Report Post" button above the post.
zOMG/Pinball/Towns/Rally/Fishing/Cards/Slots etc... - These all have two methods to reporting. The first is to click on the user's avatar and you'll find you can report them there. The second is to click the report abuse button at the bottom of the screen and type their name out.
Guilds - Guilds are different. For individual stuff you should just take it to the crew of the guild. It's their job to remove this stuff. If they don't or wont or encourage ToS violating content then the whole guild can be reported from the guild landing page and they can lose their guild.
If it's something serious though (for example if someone is password phishing) then you can pass it on to a moderator by PMing a link to the offending content. That's something we really want to get rid of no matter where it is.
When using the Guild report form please include a link to whatever is the offending content, it's no fun to have to hunt through a guild with thousands of posts looking for the thread you're talking about.
Journals - You are able to report individual journals by clicking the REPORT JOURNAL link at the bottom. Unfortunately it doesn't work like the post/thread reports, so you need to include a link to the relevant entry (otherwise we have to hunt through the whole thing).
Aquarium Bottles/Aquarium Comments - These now have a little "Report" link next to them, so you can report offensive bottles and offensive comments.
Arena Entries - If there is an inappropriate or misplaced entry in the arena you can report the individual entry.
Arena Comments - Offensive comments in the arenas can also be reported with the little "report" link. I know it says "report as spam" but you can report it for whatever the actual violation is.
VJ - If you open up the individual playlist you can report it from there. If you're unable to open it you can PM the playlist id number to a moderator and we can check it out.
Extensive Abuse or Harassment - In the cases of extensive abuse or harassment that takes place over multiple posts/message etc... you can use this form. It's found on the Forums page @ the very bottom. However it is not a way to bypass the usual report system, you cannot use it to report things like password phishing in PMs or someone flaming in a post. In those cases use the individual associated report system.
One off things don't belong in A/H. If someone flamed you, report their message. If they have a history of flaming you can come back on multiple accounts then report the relevant messages and then submit an A/H report including the relevant report numbers.
A/H is used as the garbage report form sadly. People like to copy/paste PMs into it or say things like "he was mean to me". It doesn't auto-link with a post or PM or thread so when presenting a A/H you need to actually give some evidence. It's not enough to say "he was being mean to me!" you should say where and when and give the whole story.
I'm not going to go into Hacking or Scamming reports since both of those are outside of what I deal with. All of the above are what I deal with.
That's a massive (and incomplete) list of reporting features on Gaia. In all those features the report system is definitely better than a screenshot (there are a couple of exceptions, mainly with Towns and scripting where it's good to get a screenshot of what's happening) and so you should use the actual report button/link/whatever.
Screenshots can be easily faked and have been faked. There's a reason why we prefer the report system because it can't be easily tricked (as in you can't edit the report to make the other person say something naughty as you can with a screenshot).
There are some features that don't have report buttons, like profiles and profile comments. In these cases a screenshot isn't needed either because if you directly link us to the comment/profile we can witness the offensive content ourselves. In the hierarchy of things a screenshot rates less than a link to the content.
Please make all our jobs easier and utilize the report system!
