Title: Paths (Its still in progress)
Body:
A hand scrawls across the page, dark hair falling around her slim form. Her dark brown eyes skimming the words as she writes. She puts the pen down and streaches back. A tall young man with brown hair and crystal clear blue eyes leans over her and reads the words. She jumps forward and tries to cover the page.
"No, let me read it.
'Broken hearts,
Broken minds,
Shattered souls,
Shattered blinds.
Can't escape the pain,
Can't escape the world.
Face the truth,
Hide from the lies.
Run from bittersweet words,
Double edged swords.
Lies make you feel good,
But so much easier for death.
Speak the truth,
Mute the lies,
Reality will keep you alive,
Dreams will kill you.' Wow, Abby... what made you write this?" He asked her. She leaned forward and let her hair flow over her face again. She mumbled something. "Abby, I couldn't hear you. What happened?" He put his hand on her shoulder and pulled her up.
She clung onto him and tried to hold her tears in. "Daniel, he lied to me. I let him lie to me. I knew he was lieing too! I let myself be blinded by his lies and all I wanted to do was die!" He just held her closer as she failed to hold in the tears. She just stood there, sobbing into his shouder.
"Abby, it will be alright." He rubbed her back lightly as she kept crying. "You are better off without him. Remember your priorities? He was just holding you back with his lies. You even wrote it yourself in one of your earlier poems, remember? You asked me if I thought you should break up with him because he didn't want you to go to church anymore." She stopped crying, took a step back and looked at Daniel. She smiled at him and put her head against his chest.
"Alright, thank you so much Daniel. I'll meet you in the truck, I just have to get a book really quick and then I'll see you there." She smiled as she pulled away from him. wondering why she choose Jake over anyone else. "The winner takes it all, the loser has to fall." She sang to herself as she grabbed a book. "The Universe of the Four Gods. Sounds interesting. I bet Daniel will roll his eyes at my choice. He always does." She laughed softly to herself. "He always knows what is best for me. I just wish I was smart enough to listen to him.Well, I guess its a good thing Jake dumped me for Lilith then. He gets a girl that will sleep with him, I don't have to feel bad about hanging out with my guy friends like Daniel and Adam." She got the book and checked it out of the libary. The book then went into her bag and humming an ABBA song, she walked out the building.
Footsteps followed her, but she paid no mind as she stepped in time to the song. She stopped as a dizzy spell hit her. She heard voices, they started out soft, then they got louder until they were yelling. She fell to the ground and gripped onto her head. She sat there as the voices were screaming and competeing against eachother to be heard. They blended into one as two sets of footsteps reached her. "Your destiny will be choosen today. Choose the right path young warrior." Then the voice faded and the other voices started fightng to be heard again. They were all screaming for help. Suddenly she heard her name being yelled above the rest and realized someone was shaking her. She snapped her head up and locked onto a pair of blue eyes. Behind him was a girl with angry gold eyes. Abby stopped caring about the gold eyes with their anger, instead she looked into the blue eyes with concern. She felt so dizzy. She was confused. What path was the right path? Why did that woman call her a young warrior? Abby certainly knew her way around weapons, but she was no warrior. The ground seemed farther away and to be moving underneath her. She looked back up and realized the blue eyes were looking ahead and that Daniel was carrying her to the truck. She looked behind her and there was no one else in the parking lot. The girl with angry gold eyes was gone. She closed her eyes again and when she opened them up she was being buckled into a seat.
"Daniel, you don't have to do this. I'll be fine." She tried to grab his hand and he grabbed hers instead. "Abby, you fell to the ground, were holding your head and screaming, and you say your fine? I'm taking you to the hospital." She shook her head and squeezed his hand. "No, we have a performance tonight, remember? If you take me to the hospital, even the emergency room, we will wait for 2 hours atleast, more like 4 since I'm not dieing, then wait in the room for another hour for a doctor, then since I'm not showing any syptoms and our hospital doesn't like to do tests unless someone other than the government pays for them, they will send me home and tell me to drink plenty of fluids and rest. Daniel, you have to remember our hospitals here aren't good at all. I go to them atleast every other month, so yay for government health insurance." He pulled his hand out of hers and hugged her tightly. "Just this once, but we're going to pick up your costumes and then your sleeping at my house and drinking pleanty of fluids. Then if you don't feel well after the performance I'm going to ask my dad if he can check over you real quick."
She smiled at him, "The perks of having a doctor for a father?" He just smiled at her and went to the other side of the car. "Or the perks of having a best friend who rarely questions you?" He slid into the car and smiled at her. "Both." He pulled out of the parking lot, drove to Abby's house and parked infront. He got out of the truck, walked around, and opened her door. "Daniel, why do you always have to be such a gentleman? Sometimes you make me wonder why I dated Jake and didn't go out with you." She got out of the truck and missed the look he gave her. She walked up her cracked driveway and opened her door for him. "Would you like to return to my mansion?" She gave a deep, sweeping bow and her hair brushed the floor. Daniel laughed at her and walked in. He tried to ignore the cracked walls and peeling paint. She flicked on the lights and they flicked right back off. "Dear old mummy didn't pay the electric bill again I assume." She laughed at her own joke while he pursed his lips together. She walked through the kitchen and into her room. Daniel noted that she didn't even have a door, instead a piece of cloth was nailed over the doorway. He hesitated going into her room, but she stepped right back out and pulled him in. "You don't have to worry, nothing going to happen if we are in my bedroom alone." He held himself back from saying he couldn't stand to be in her house. He looked at the cracked window with the moth eaten curtains, her blood-stained floor, and her bed. Which was actually a matress with 5 blankets on it and some pillows. Abby walked over to a battery powered lamp Daniels mother had bought her when she heard about her situation. She took three dresses off of the bent part of the lamp and grabbed the pair of heels under the dresses. She then grabbed a pair of nylons from her tiny dresser. Daniel flinched a little when he saw blue paint chips fall off.
"Abby, are you sure you don't want to move in with me? We already have a spare room and its already got your favorite colors and it won't take very long to move all your... stuff. Or better yet, we can buy you new things." He asked as he saw a crack grow wider when she pushed the dresser drawer closed. She looked at him and shook her head. She looked around the room, nodded and turned towards him. "Okay, we're done. I just have to see if Mom is home, and if she is, make sure she didn't od again." Daniel moved out of the way and followed her through the kitchen. She made another turn and walked into the living room. She grabbed a bag and started picking up the bottles and cans. Then she walked over to the couch and her mother laying on it. Abby brushed her mothers honey blonde hair out of her face and put a blanket over her. She emptied out the ash tray and put the asprin bottle on the table. "You should see your daughter now mom. I'm going to sing so beautifully tonight. Dad would never have left if he knew what talent his daughter has." She stood up and rubbed her eyes. "Okay Daniel, lets go." He took the dresses from her hands and walked through her front door. He was putting the dresses and shoes into his truck when she came through the door. He turned to her and noted that she looked pale. He opened his mouth to say so and she fainted.
