the death penalty has no place in civillised society.

it is a backwards, medieval, and barbaric thing to entertain. why do Americans still engage in this sordid and disturbing practice?
does the death of the perpetrator stop your grieving?
does it replace the loved one you lost?
no.

nobody has the right to decide that another person should lose their life. the death penalty is murder under a different name and it should be stopped...it is a huge reason why other nations view America as a violent aggressive bully.

somebody mentioned in a previous post that Sadam Hussein was tried in his own country and shot after hanging did not work...that is not true. he requested to be shot and was denied, he was tried and executed in Iraq, yes, but the trial was initiated by the USA and he was transferred to an Iraqi base for execution. he was video'd on a cell phone being disrepected and taunted as the noose was around his neck. the hanging was not judicial (Elysia has already explained what is meant by that) and then the video was "leaked" onto the internet where millions of people ghouls watched a genuine snuff movie and enjoyed it. tell me the difference between those voyeurs and somebody on death row for getting kicks out of killing someone?

if you are genuinely concerned about the state of society there are other ways to tackle crime...in fact i believe it is well documented that states which have abolished the dp and instead invested that budget into crime prevention - community improvement, street lighting, social services, better policing, psychiatric help, public awareness etc...have seen a very significant fall in the level of violent crime they experience...and countries who's police, and legal guardians, do not use violence or lethal weapons, and invest more into the social welfare of their citizens have exemplary living conditions as a tribute to how well it works - just look at Sweden.

the death penalty is a signifier of a country with the mentality of an ignorant, vengeful, adolescent...it frightens me that somehow the greates superpower on Earth is still practising it.

darling, might i use this as an example argument of why trusting, nonviolent civilizations are better off, as a cited source for the mention of examples where it has been prooven?

although i am a bit befuddled to what you mean, yes of course feel free... smile

thnk you, i appreciate it! ^.^
