Chapter one: Spring

He had been to this high school his entire teenage life. He knew, at least partially, almost everyone. So why was he so afraid to walk through those doors? He let out a shaky breath and proceeded through the doors of the firebrick building.

“Oh, welcome. You must be..” The teacher, who Van found out to be Mrs. Janice, searched her roll. “Van Weiss. Well since you are up here, why don’t you introduce yourself to the class?” Mrs. Janice stepped to the side, giving Van the floor. He took in a shaky breath before speaking timidly.
“Um…H-hello everyone…M-my name is V-van…and uh…” Van was cut off by a sarcastic scoff coming from one of the front seats.
“Come one dude, you’ve been here all year. You know almost everyone here. Why the hell are you stuttering like some idiot?” Mrs. Janice quickly stepped in front of the grey mancoon boy’s desk and glared down at him.
“Jack Niison! I will not tolerate such language in this class room! Now you will apologize this instant!” She exclaimed.
Jack turned his head to the side and chuckled.
“Pfft, as if…” Jacked stated, causing the class to erupt into laughter.
Mrs. Janice stormed back to her desk and grabbed a yellow slip which she quickly filled out. She laid the slip on Jacks desk.
“Detention. 3:45 p.m. If you don’t attend you will be written up.” She harshly stated.
As she strode back to her desk she nodded her head to Van, indicating for him to have a seat. He silently walked to the very back of the room, his ears laid flat against his head.
Mrs. Janice let out a deep sigh before she spoke.
“Alright class…your text books are under the desk. We’ll start this semester by reviewing Prepositional phrases.”

Van leaned on the wall outside the school and sighed, his fist day the second semester had been hell. It seemed like everyone hated him for one reason or another. As he rested against the wall, his sensitive ears picked up the almost silent steps of another anthrope. Not wanting to have any more contact with anyone else, he made a move to leave but was pinned in place by two powerful looking arms.
“Here there baby, what’s a sexy little thing like you doing out here alone?”
Van pressed himself flat against the wall, whimpering slightly as he spoke.
“I-I was just heading home…” He made another move to leave but soon found his wrists gripped tightly by the white feline’s hands.
“C’mon, let me have some fun with you.”
The cat began to trail his lips down Van’s soft furry cheek. Gently nipping as he moved toward his neck. Van finally snapped from his shock induced daze and began struggling wildly. The cat purred at Van’s feeble efforts to escape but it didn’t slow his actions. He continued downward, reaching Van’s neck and slowly dragging his tongue across it. Little did he know that Van’s neck triggered violent behavior in the normally timid fox.
Van snarled viciously, his white fangs gleaming in the dull sunlight. He tore his wrist from the feline’s grip and raked his razor claws across the cat’s shocked face. The injured cat howled in pain as blood spilled from his wounds. During the cat’s immobile moment Van lunged at him, pushing him to the ground. The cat tried to defend himself from the fox’s sudden violence by shielding his face from his fangs. Van immediately sunk his teeth into the furry arm in front of him and violently shook his head side to side. The cat howled once again in searing pain, luckily this howl snapped Van from his blind rage.
“Damn b*****d!” The cat spit as he shoved the dazed fox off of him and ran away, holing his bloodied arm.
Van sat in the grass staring blankly ahead, thinking about what just happened. Everything in his mind was a blur. He was in such a daze that he didn’t hear the foot steps coming behind him. The only thing that snapped him out of it was warm hand that touched his shoulder. It shocked him so that in the process of turning around he fell on his back. He clenched his bloodied fangs before gazing up into the icy blue eyes of the mancoon boy.
“Hey…you alright? I saw what happened.”
“J-jack? W-what’s…where am…Is he…” Van began to franticly swivel his head back and forth, tying to figure out what happened.
“Hey hey, he’s not dead, just injured. Why are you worried about him anyway?” Jack said as he folded his arms across his chest.
Van didn’t say a word, he just stared at the grass and at the small drops of blood that stained it. Jack spoke up again, his words sounding as if he actually cared.
“Maybe you should head home and tell you parents about this.”
Van shook his head. “I can’t go home looking like this…”
Van wiped his mouth, looking at the blood that stained his silver fur. this had been the second time he’d went wild in public, the first time was at his junior high school when he was 13. The court said that if it happened again, he would have to be put into a rehabilitation type facility.
Jack sighed. “Well…you could clean up at my house. No one’s there besides me.”
Jack turned his back and began walking to his car. He stopped for a moment and called back to Van.
“C’mon if you’re coming, I want be home before that damned English teacher comes out here looking for me.”
Jack unlocked his car door and dropped into the driver’s seat, he clicked his key into the ignition and started up the car but waited a moment before pulling off. The passenger door opened and closed as the silver fox lowered himself into the leather seat.
“Don’t mention this to anyone…”
