Grasshopper - The Native Man [01]
The Native Man
In the darkness of the night, a howl is heard echoing across the landscape. It is the call of the warrior, the signal of a chase, and the prequel to a death. It is the cry of a hunter in pursuit of fresh game and a warning to the beast that seeks to elude him. In desperation, it may hide, it may run, but it cannot escape, and it cannot deny the voracious killer his meal. In a few moments, the prey will be pounced upon, it will struggle to break free, only to shriek in agony as two daggers are plunged deep into its neck. In the last moments of its life, it will be unable to move or cry, but while the heart still beats, it will feel pain, as the hungry butcher tares him limb from limb in cold satisfaction. It is my pleasure, dear readers, to introduce the native man, the slayer of that creature and of many others, the first protagonist to this story. In lue of describing the victims of that moonlit night, we shall, instead, move to the point where he returns to his family with the spoils of his gruesome pursuit. In addition, though he is known as the native man today, back then his name was Jinezu.
"It was fantastic!" Exclaimed Jinezu.
"The beasts fled with all their might, but could not escape the ferocity of my assault."
He turns towards his wife, Nesumi, and asked, "How are the young ones fairing, my beloved?"
"The pups are fine," said Nesumi with a loving expression.
"They took a nap sometime ago." She smiles and watches over them.
"But how?" She declares with a solemn tone.
"Could you brag about killing, when you know that I could not participate in the hunt!? "
"My apologies," said Jinezu while laughing.
"But fear not, for I shall take the next watch, and you may hunt our prey, and partake of their delicious blood at your leisure."
"Aww, you say the sweetest things," said Nesumi with a giggle.
"But, let us deal with that later, for the kids are starting to rise from their slumber and will no doubt be hungry."
In that humble setting, the family devour their meal. Once satisfied, they huddled together and whilst snuggled in the comforting warmth of their loved ones, each of them falls asleep, happy and content, eagerly awaiting the next day.
