Me and Mikel changed our minds. We've got a plan, and I'm not going to tell you what it is just yet. You just have to keep reading for yourself. The characters are Lee and Andrew, at this point in time.

Keep in mind that the couch is a character in and of itself.

ACT ONE!

Scene One
[single spot comes up on Lee, sitting on an ugly couch, positioned center stage.]

Lee: I never thought anyone could be this happy. [laughs] It's kind of funny, I never expected to find anyone this... amazing. Especially not when I did. I thought... hell, there were a lot of things I was thinking at the time, but finding someone I could honestly love? Never crossed my mind. See... High school was perfect. I was happy, I was pretty, I had friends... Y'know? I spent my weekends working for my dad at various charity events. I liked it... but I wanted to be my own person. Beginning of junior year, I met this guy, Chris. [spot comes up on a guy, Chris, standing on stage left. ]He was the first stable relationship I'd ever had. Senior year, I truly believed he and I were going to get married. Mid-senior year, he told me that he was going on a trip to Spain. That he was going away. And that he didn't know when he was coming back. [beat] And that he wanted me to move on and to be happy. [light on Chris fades]It killed me. For the longest time, I was just... Miserable. I moped, I screamed... I lost all I'd built up. I graduated high school without giving a damn where I was going next. [smiles, oddly calm for such a depressing bit. ] Then... Then I met him. [spot comes up on Andrew, standing on stage right. ]

Lee: It was... so silly. i was driving down the road, cursing my luck, right? And my tire blew. Typical. I pulled over to the side of the road and climb out, wondering how the hell I was going to change the tire myself. All of the sudden, I saw this big white truck pull up behind me, and this really clean-cut, nerdy looking guy jumped out to help me. Miraculously, he managed to help me take it off and replace it. I tried to pay him back, right? He refused. Finally, I told him "look, you just helped me out more than I think you know. How can I ever repay you for it?" He stopped, thought about it for a second, then told me he wanted one date with me. I thought what the hell' and agreed. [beat]That was the best decision of my life. Two years later... life changed.

[lights go down. In the darkness, Andrew joins her on the couch. It's a flashback, like in the movies.]

Andrew: Baby, you should be proud of me. [wraps his arms around her tightly]

Lee: [moves out of his arms, stands up. He stays frozen there, not reacting to what she says.] We'd been talking about this forever. He wanted to join the Marines, and... it was just a matter of time before he got his way. It terrified me, but it was what he watned. He'd supported me through so much... I was going to college when I saved up the money, and so i didn't have to pay rent, he'd let me move in with him. I trusted him with my life... why couldn't I trust him with this? [sighs] I knew I wasn't allowed to be the clingy, psycho, overbearing girlfriend I wanted to be, at that point. So I swallowed my fear, and asked him innocently what happened. [returns to his arms]

Andrew: [smiles and pulls out a letter] I finally got my acceptance letter.

Lee: [strained] Congrats, honey. I knew you could do it... When do you leave?

Andrew: They gave me four months, which gives me enough time to do what I should've a long time ago. [kisses her before moving away]

Lee: What are you-[breaks off as she realizes what he's doing]

Andrew: We've been together two years, and I've learned... well... I can't live without you, Lee. [smiles and pulls out a ring box] Will you do me the honor of marrying me?

Lee: [ starts tearing up] O... of course. [ throws her arms around him and kisses him. Lights out. ]
