I arrived at the bakery just in time 30 minutes until closing time as I watched her thru the window I felt relieved and calm as if a big worry was take off my shoulders. I sat down on the bench in the town square over looking the bakery and I noticed that she was looking at me with a slight smile in her face, I stumbled my vision some where else looking back at her long enough to see her smile grow. “Well this is a pleasant surprise? It’s good to see you again Zack.”- I turned around and saw Mary Barstow, Cristina’s mother.
“Hello Mrs. Barstow.”- I got up nervously.
“You don’t need to get up dear.”- She sat down next to where I was sitting. “Now sit down and show me what you where looking at”- she smiled.
I sat down next to her looking at the ground. “I wasn’t really looking at anything in particular.”
“Oh don’t give me that I noticed that you where looking at something or someone very diligently now show me.”- She stopped for a minute as she noticed that we where in front of the bakery‘s main window and how Cristina was smiling at the costumers inside. “I see now what you where looking at.”- She smiled while giving me a quick jab at my ribs with her elbow.
“I- I – uhmm……. I really wasn’t ……”- I managed to mumble.
“It’s okay Zack you don’t need to explain anything to me.”- She got up and headed towards the bakery. “Are you going to stay there or are you coming in? Diner is almost done and my husband always tells me that I cook too much.”- She smiled.
“But I don’t want to impose.”- I replied a bit happy for the invitation.
“Don’t worry you know your always welcome in our house besides I’m sure that it would do Tina some good to talk to someone.”- She replied almost at the door of the bakery.
I entered the establishment after her as I greeted everyone inside.
“Hello Zack.”- Tina answered.
“Hi Tina it’s been a while your mother invited me for dinner I hope you don’t mind.”- I replied.
Tina looked at her mom and she only smiled at her daughter and proceeded towards the living quarters of the shop. I helped Mr. Barstow with the closing of the store and clean up while we waited for dinner to be finished, Tina went inside to help her mother with preparations.
