Velsper clenched his covers up around his head so tightly his knuckles turned white. He tried to cover his ears to deafen the loud sound and closed his eyes to the scary flashing lights making savage shadows on his walls. It just didn't help, the pounding rain & wind creating this horrid storm wasn't unnatural to their grand city, it would be a lot worse if it were a typhoon, but the little child was afraid of thunder and lightening. He had never really liked booming loud things outside of musical instuments even then he preferred the soft plucking of violins or harps compared to the cymbols or drums.
He was nearly in tears and couldn't resist anymore. He was told not to leave his room anymore in the middle of the night seeking the warmth and comfort of his mother and father. They were trying to teach him to have more independence and to stop acting like a newborn baby that constantly needed its parents attention. But he had always hated thunder storms from the very beggining and had always sought shelter in his mothers or fathers arms during one. He would violently kick his mother and accidently hit his twin sister in the womb, once born he'd cry until one of his parents held him until the storm was over.
As the tears ran down his soft pale cheeks he jumped out of bed, ran to the door with the speed of a frightened deer, threw it open with haste, and jetted down the hallway to their room. He opened their door and didn't stop to close it back as he ran to their bed & used the frame to hoist himself up onto it. He walked up to the head careful not to step on them and pulled their cover back just enough so he could slide inbetween them. He moved closer to his mother and nuzzled his head into her chest, finally feeling secure enough to fall asleep.
A few minutes went by and his mother awoke to a little warm body sleeping next to her. Not really surprised she eased herself out of bed and picked him up without waking him. She went to his room and placed him back into his bed, pulling his covers up and tucking him back in with a kiss. The storm wasn't quite over yet, but it had calmed down as it moved back into the Sea of Japan. She had wanted him to remain in his room all night despite his fear of thunder and lightnening. He hadn't, but he was still sleeping at the moment, in his own bed, while the storm raged in the distance and that was the first step in the right direction.
