Gaian works of a Creative mind
Random stuff mostly. Once a week maybe I'll post a short story (no longer 'usually untitled') that just pops into my head, written on the fly. Comments are encouraged. Share thoughts, questions, and maybe even write your own continuances.

ARMR - Advanced Reinforced Mechanized Reticulator

"Don't look at me. I didn't come up with the name."
- 1LT John Petkosek, initial FORCE training brief on ARMR systems

ARMR systems are man-sized exoskeltons varying from skeletal frames that enhance speed and strength, to full metal envelopes of destruction - some even with mounted weapons. Originally dreamed of in ancient days of conventional warfare, ARMR systems have come a long way from projects like 'Land Warrior'.

Modern systems come in two basic versions, and a number of types. The first is the Open system, which is simply an exoskeleton, with or without armor, that seals around the user either partially or completely. The operating system is very basic and has limited securities. The interface is limited to subvocal, allowing faster reaction times than conventional strength-enhancers. HUD is provided by means of visors or helmets. The second is a Closed system. Closed systems are always full-coverage suits with a combination neural/subvocal interface allowing for the fastest possible response time. Speed and strength are both magnified to the point where smaller more subtle movements take an incredible degree of discipline, grace, and practice. A simple shrug is nearly impossible. Each ARMR-C (closed type) is specifically tailored to the user, coding the neural interface to the intended rider's biorythmn. A full systemic reset, including the replacement of partially organic components, is required in the event a Closed system is to be transferred from one user to another.

Mass-produced Open systems range from simple strength-enhancing exoskeletons designed for construction workers to full-enclosure body armor that enhances speed and strength designed for military special assault teams. They are widely available, but are limited in their special features. Subvocal control systems, noise filters, various optics, and large calibre weapon systems are the norm.

Closed systems, being individually tailored, are almost unique to each individual user. Some of the most advanced use the Vector Array system to turn sections of the suit's skin into both 'sword' and 'shield'. The most advanced use of the Vector Array system known is the NOVA unit, an advanced ARMR that is 100% covered in the Vector Array, including the helmet's visor. Other ARMR use small-scale blazers or fusion generators as weaponry. Some have energy shielding. Some can link into specially designed vehicles, including certain EAVs.

There really is no one standard design to go by to provide a description. It varies from force to force, from fighter to fighter.
