Neglected Love


For days the gorgeous flowers of love
stood unattended ; they wondered why
their beauty found no nourishment,
their generous sweetness no acceptance.

They gave their joy unstintingly
with every sunrise new and fresh.
Nothing was withheld,and yet
they found no roots,no loving care.

And then, one day when they were gone
and all my joy was gone with them
I understood my grievous fault,
I understood my cruel neglect.

O flowers of love, red flowers of love ,
no afterthought will bring you back
and no regrets will ease the heart
that was afraid to own your joy!

O flowers of love, you blossom once
and-if neglected-never more!
O heart, how you must miss
the loveliness you cast away.
