When Shayra finished her soup, I brought up something that was bothering me. "Hey, Popper. You probably know more about what's going on than we do. What the hell happened?"
She crushed the empty can and chuckled. "That's an interesting choice of words, Fluffy. From what my sources tell me, this isn't an isolated event. It's happening all over the Multiverse, and maybe even your world. We're dealing with creatures from a realm called Nessus, more commonly known as Hell."

"Yo, hold up." Doriyan interrupted, "I thought Hell was just a religious thing."
"Well, yes and no." Shayra continued, "Eternal torment of the damned is described in many cross-planar religions. My guess is that these ideas were acquired from people who could see across the dimensions, i.e. prophets. Anyway, Nessus has a history of brutal rulers; in fact, to become the lord of Nessus, you have to be able to kill the previous ruler in combat. The latest king somehow knew about dimensional travel, and sent legions of demons to take over every inhabitable world in the Multiverse. I saw this firsthand when they took over my world." She looked away and clenched her fists.
