This s**t is not cool.
If Only It Were Real [Unfinished]
Awaken by an awful sound, I covered my ears. Was it a dog? If it was, it was in extreme pain. As I got up and out of bed, the sound stopped. I certainly hope it wasn’t a dog. Or any other animal in that matter.
I sighed as I picked out my clothes for the day. Plain black t-shirt and jeans. I seriously needed to go shopping. But with what? Dirt? I’m flat broke! It’s not like my parents would lend me some money. They said they won’t give me squat until I move out. I could move out any time I wanted, but I didn’t want to live alone. And if I did move out now, I would probably drop out of my last year at high school. Not the smartest idea, but I couldn’t stand that hell hole!
After I got dressed, I wondered if mom had anything planned for today. I‘d have to ask. She doesn‘t let me do anything these days. She always wants help around the house. It‘s so tiny, I don‘t know why she needs to clean everyday. And if it’s not cleaning, it’s going grocery shopping or her going to get her nails done. She offers to get mine done, but why would I do that? They’d get ruined within less than fifteen minutes. I’ve never been a real girly girl, not since I was four. And that was fourteen years ago!
“Mom?” I called out into the hall. I waited. And waited. “Mom!”
No answer.
I let out a loud sigh. She must still be asleep.
Quietly I made my way to her room and opened the door. She wasn’t there. “Huh…”
There was a low growl. My stomach. Breakfast time.
I dragged myself to the kitchen and got out a bowl, spoon and some cheap brand of cereal. I put it on the table, almost dropping everything. I opened the fridge and got the milk. As I set the milk on the table, I spotted a yellow sticky note I hadn’t seen before.
‘Jenna,
Went over to my mothers. She’s ill. Will stay for a few days. Dad is working late.’ - Mom
Poor grandma. Hope she’s okay.
So, I get the whole day to myself. But what the hell is there to do? Hopefully my friends didn’t have anything to do. Maybe I’d see if they wanted to go out and do something fun… For free of course.
I quickly poured and ate the cereal.
I grabbed the phone and quickly dialed Mel’s number. “Hey, Mrs. Harper. Is Mel home?”
“For once she’s actually home and not out with that boyfriend of hers!” She paused and I could hear her calling for Mel. “Mel? Mel!” Silence. “It’s Jenna.”
“Jennnnnaaaaa!” Mel spoke excitedly into the phone. “Hi-yaaa!” She was almost out of breath. “I was getting dressed. What’s up?”
“Oh, sorry to interrupt. What’ca doing today?” I rocked back and forth on my feet. “I was wondering if you wanted to hang out… And maybe some of our other friends can too.”
“Got nothing to do. So! Who should we invite? Mia? Martha? Wendy? Matt?” Her voice rose when she said Matt. Her boyfriend, they’d be all over each other.
“Uh, how about Mia?”
“Okay. Sounds okie dokie.” She took a breath. “I’ll call her if ya want. And do you want us to come there?” She took another breath. “And, er, what are we going to do?”
“You can call her. I don’t have her number anyway. Come meet me here and we’ll discuss on what to do."
“Okay! If Mia can come, I'll pick her up. See ya! Bye.”
“Bye.” I hung up.
I’d watch some dumb t.v. shows until they came. I hope Mia can come. It’s always more fun when there are three, except if one of us gets ignored.

"Sorry that took a while." Mel said while coming through the door. "Mia took forever to get dressed."
"Did not. It only took...What? Twenty minutes? Record time!"
I lowered my head, slowly shaking it.
Mia sat down on the couch. "What are we going to do?" She asked as she crossed her legs. "Go out and check out some guys?" She giggled.
"Pfft! No way, Mia." I grumbled.
"Then what? We're not gonna do anything about guys?" She whined.
Mel perked up. "Oh, oh! Do you guys remember about the Rose family?"
Mia and I both nodded out heads.
"Yeah. What about 'em?" I asked.
"Some of the people around here have said they spotted the little boy. Well, he's not a kid anymore...Our age by now. They saw him going into the woods by his house."
"How is that possible? The police said they were all murdered..." I leaned forward, towards the edge of the couch.
It was almost ten years ago that the Rose family had been murdered by some psycho that escaped. The psycho, Mitch Peil, got away. He's still out there. Sara Rose, the mother, was eight months pregnant at the time. She had died from losing too much blood. The baby was cut out of the womb and chopped into bits. Randolf Rose, the father, was stabbed twenty five times in the chest before his head was chopped off. Roman Rose, the son, though they found his blood smeared on the floor, leading to outside, his body was never found. Mitch even killed the family dog, Bruno.
"I dunno how it's possible. His body was never found! Maybe he survived..." Mel said in a whisper.
Mia shuddered. "What if it was a ghost?" Her voice squeeked as her tan skin turned pale.
I grabbed a pillow and threw it in Mias face. "There's no such thing as ghosts!"
"Says you!" She threw it back at me and started pouting.
Mel sighed. "Stop that guys." She suddenly was deep into thought, or at least it looked like it. "Aha!" She almost screamed. "How about we investigate the Rose house?"
"What?!" Mia jumped to her feet. "Bad idea. Bad, bad, bad idea! The very thought of that place...and...ghosts..." She gulped. "Gives me the creeps."
I could see the hair on Mias arms stand on end. "Chicken." I chuckled.
"I am not!" She stomped. "I'll prove I'm not! We're going to that house. And we're going now!" She demanded.
Mel and I looked to each other, then at Mia. We burst into laughter.
"You think I'm... Grrr!" She headed for the door.
"Fine. Mia, lets go to the house. Prove to us you are not a chicken." Mel put on her 'I'm acting serious, but I'm not really serious' face.
"Well, lets get going girls." I stood up, heading for the door. "I'll drive."

Slowly, I pulled into the driveway. The house did look a bit spooky. The overcast today made the house even more spooky! I tried my best not to show I was just slightly scared.
"Jenna, turn off the truck. Lets get out." Mel tugged on my shirt.
I hadn't noticed I was just sitting there staring at the house for almost three whole minutes. I shook my head. "Yeah, okay." They got out of the truck as I took the keys out of the ignition. I stumbled out of the truck. I guess I was a bit more scared than I thought.
Mel softly pushed Mia towards the front door. "Go on ahead. We'll be right behind you."
Legs shaking, Mia made her way to the front door.
