Amative Attic
Their love was forbidden…against their peers, parents and even some friends. The yelling, the screaming…it was all so much to take in and it happened so fast. Time was running out and they had to get away from the world to be together. So they did. They ran, with no intentions of coming home. They didn’t go far. A few blocks into a different neighborhood to an old abandoned house. It wasn’t much but they had to think ahead. They went into the attic, it was perfect. A few bugs, cracks and holes in the walls but over all, it was roomy and if anyone came looking for them here, they wouldn’t check the attic, or so they hoped. They only had a lantern, a marker, about 35 dollars, a knife, a pillow, and a few weeks worth of food. It was good enough for the time being.
It had been almost 35 days now that they have been living here. The older of the two, if only by a year, wanted to ensure their safety. They decided that they wouldn’t move a lot during daylight. So every morning till dusk they’d lye on the wooden floor in near silence. One holding the other close, with only the occasional whisper of an ‘I love you.’ Or an encouraging but heart breaking, ‘It’ll be ok.’ They’d rather die together then live apart…why was everyone so discriminate?
“Why?” The Youngest said holding back tears.
“Its life love…” The other answered apologetically.
“I wish they’d just except it…it’s not fair. Why can’t they just understand that it’s love?” She trembled as she spoke, making her voice uneven and a tear rolled down her face.
“Shhh, we’ll get out of this, baby, Together. I swear by it. We can get away from here, but we need to wait, at least until things die down. It’ll be ok,” She said as she kissed the top of her head, “Nothing will pull us apart now.”
“The cops will,” she mumbled, “they’ll take you away from me…”
“That won’t happen love, don’t think like that,” She paused for a moment then finally said, “Even if that does happen…I’ll always be in your heart and that they can’t take from you.” Everything was silence again as the sun rose. Only one last thing was said, “Go to sleep, I promise we’ll wake up together.” So they did.
