The details on my accident with a forklift
Some of you may or may not know about my tragic accident with a forklift. It left me in a wheelchair for the next year and a half of my life. I could never begin to describe the amount of physical and emotional pain that it has and still is putting me through. Well, I've finally decided to get the police report for my accident so I could see the way it looked from someone elses point of view. Without further ado, happy reading.

On 11-05-04 at 1603hrs. Sgt. Holly Krantz and I (Sgt. Brian Rodgers) were standing in the parking lot of the C.J.C. when we heard a cry for help at Paul Bounds Home and Garden located at 401 S. Main St. Looking in the direction of the cry we saw a white male pacing frantically and another white male lying on the ground screaming. We quickly arrived in the parking lot just North of the business where we found the victim, Justin F. Raines, lying on the ground near a forklift.

Raines was obviously in extreme pain. I saw that his pants were almost torn from his body and that the right pant leg was severely shredded. Under his right leg I observed a large pool of blood. I observed Raines to be suffering from arterial bleeding from the back of his leg near the lower hamstring to the upper calf. Most of the flesh and muscle was torn from this area. Bone and tendons were visible. While Sgt. Krantz summoned emergency medical assistance via central dispatch I acquired a tourniquet from the trunk of my car. I applied the tourniquet around his upper thigh and applied pressure to the area of his femoral artery with my left hand.

Raines stated that while working for Paul Bounds he was standing on the partially raised forks of the forklift riding across the parking lot while another employee was driving. He fell under the forklift which ran over his leg causing major injuries to his lower extremities.

Moments later E.M.S. officials with Picayune Fire Rescue and Emergystat Ambulance service arrived and began to treat Raines for his injuries. Sgt. Krantz and I began to survey the scene. The forklift was stopped facing North. About six feet directly behind the forklift an area of concrete about eight inches in circumference was slightly disturbed. This is believed to be the area of contact between the wheel of the forklift and Raines' body. A thin line of disturbed concrete followed the front left wheel of the forklift to the point of rest. About half way between the area of contact and the point of rest a small piece of bone from Raines' leg was found.

At Raines' request I notified his fiance who he identified as Sarah at telephone# 555-1234(I'm not really going to put my phone number). I explained to her that according to E.M.S. Raines would be first taken to Crosby Memorial Hospital to be air lifted to an unknown trauma unit. This case was determined to be an injury of near death. Case Closed.

Well, that's the report, although it play out more vividly in my head every night since that special day of November 5th 2004. If only there was a way to stop nightmares, I would be in good shape. I was going to attach pictures to this, but they have nudity in them and are pretty sickening with the blood everywhere and bones and muscle hanging out of my leg. So, I guess you will just have to use your imaginations.

And that folks, was the worst day of my life. I would hate to ever hear about someone having to go through something like that, because I for one can say that it hurts like hell.
