Well, a friend of mine liked what I wrote last time and we've been rping with each other for a while so I wanted to write up how her StarClan cat died and this is it! I hope it's satisfactory! Another one-shot, this one happened before the last one.
It had happened so quickly. One moment I am sitting atop my place at High Rock, watching over my Clan and then the next, I hear a caterwaul.
I am Talonstar, leader of ThunderClan.
Jumping down from High Rock, I confronted my deputy, Mistheart just as a warrior from the patrol that had left moments ago came racing in.
“Stormclaw, what’s happening?” I demanded, realizing he was the one who had caterwauled a moment ago.
“RiverClan. They’re attacking us! By the WindClan border! Close to the lake!” He gasped. I saw blood oozing from a wound in his shoulder.
“Reddawn! Take care of Stormclaw. Mistheart, Wolffur, Bloompetal, Gingerwing, Foxfang, and Fernsky, come with me!” I yowled out the names, watching as said cats stepped forward. I noted with a bit of humor that Wolffur and Bloompetal looked especially excited, being made warriors only a moon ago. “Come!” I called, turning and racing out of camp. “Everyone else, keep an eye out!” I shouted over my shoulder.
Outside of the camp, I raced on, swerving past trees and jumping over a bush at one point. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Mistheart racing by my side. Her eyes were glittering in determination and my heart soared at how brave my deputy was. The sounds of hissing and wailing could be heard and was becoming louder and louder by the second.
And suddenly, we came crashing out of the trees like a wave of water. The sight nearly made me stop in my tracks, but I continued on. The patrol of ThunderClan cats were too overcome by the RiverClan attackers. I spotted Liondawn among the cats fighting. He stood protectively in front of his daughter Songstream, hissing and spitting angrily, swiping unsheathed claws at a RiverClan she-cat and a tom.
The last two members of the patrol were fighting against too many cats. One of them was Cloudpaw, the grayish-white tom rolling on the ground, locked in a tense battle against another apprentice. A second apprentice stood close by, prepared to attack when he had the chance.
Rainbark, the last patrol member, was fighting with all the strength of StarClan, but suddenly disappeared under the mass of RiverClan cats.
I saw all of this in a single moment as I bounded out of the trees. Giving a fierce yowl, I called to my warriors. “ThunderClan! Attack!” I cried, lunging straight into the middle of the fight, grabbing a cat by the shoulder and throwing him off of Rainbark.
Quite suddenly, I was bowled into and knocked over. Landing heavily on my side, I glared up at the cat who clawed at me. With a mighty heave, I pushed myself up and shoved the she-cat off of me. “Streamstar! Are you really so mad that you would do something as mouse brained as this?” I demanded angrily, sweeping my tail to prove my point.
“Who’re you calling mouse brained? Those kits belong to RiverClan!” She hissed angrily, her gray tabby fur bristling.
“Kits stay with the mother!” I cried back before lunging and tackling the she-cat. We rolled on the ground for a few moments before we were separated by landing heavily on the ground.
Before I could even stand, I was pushed back down by another RiverClan cat. Clawing at the tom’s underbelly, I heard him cry out and I was suddenly able to get up. Gingerwing was now latched onto the tom, biting at his ear and digging her claws further into the cats’ shoulder.
Turning around, I scanned the area, looking for Streamstar. Wolffur, my brave apprentice up until last moon, had latched himself into the shoulders of the RiverClan tom that had been ganging up on Liondawn and Songstream. Fernsky, my mate, was struggling against the RiverClan she-cat, who had been attacking the two as well, and another brown apprentice.
My eyes landed on Mistheart as the gray she-cat raced among the fighting mass. She was a blur as she slashed at one RiverClan cat and seemed to disappear, only to reappear moments later somewhere else, attacking another cat.
Turning around, satisfied that we were doing well, I lunged at a nearby cat, tackling him to the ground. Biting into the side of his neck, I clawed at his soft underbelly before I felt him shove me off. I watched as he ran off, caterwauling in pain as he headed back to RiverClan. We looked to be wining and everything was going well aside from wounds.
Then, quite suddenly, everything began to go downhill. My eyes landed on my deputy and the RiverClan leader locked in a fierce battle as they rolled on the ground, wrestling with each other, claws flying.
They rolled and rolled, nothing seemed to stop them. Some cats even stopped fighting to get out of the two she-cats way. And then, they rolled straight into the river and disappeared. My heart pounding, I began to head that way when I was stopped by another warrior.
Hissing, I lunged, my claws digging into the she-cat. I felt her claws digging into my sides and dragging, leaving behind bleeding trails. Spitting, I slashed at her ear and watched as blood weld up at the cut. She turned and ran off, yowling loudly.
Once again, I surged forward, slashing at cats that got in my way. Jumping over a fallen cat, not even knowing if it was a comrade or an enemy, I bounded over a small hill.
Racing down the side of the river I came to the lake shore and stared, transfixed with horror at the sight.
Streamstar, pouring wet with scratches down her side, glared heatedly as she towered over the motionless form of the beautiful gray mass of Mistheart. Yowling in shock and pain, I flew down the rest of the way and shoved Streamstar over. I clawed at her, hissing angrily.
We got up and I slashed at her, swiping her across the face before she turned and fled to the fight. “RiverClan! Retreat!” She called before splashing into the river and swimming across to WindClan. ThunderClan jeered and yowled in triumph as RiverClan fled, but I wasn’t among the ones cheering.
Crouching beside my deputy, I stared in horror at the blood that weld up from the bite wound in her throat. “Mistheart, hang in there, I’m going to get Reddawn.” I whispered.
“No… don’t bother. I’m dying Talonstar, there isn’t anything you can do. Let Reddawn take care of the others that need it, not a cat who won’t even make it. And…Talonstar, I’m… sorry. I… caused this.”
“No, no you didn’t. Streamstar was foolish.” I mewed back, watching as her green eyes slowly began to fade.
Smiling, she looked at something over my shoulder, into the distance. “Thank you… Talonstar. For everything. You made me deputy of a great Clan and you gave me another chance when I mated with a cat of a different Clan. I... can’t thank you enough.”
I smiled sadly down at my deputy. “You will always be remembered.”
She smiled turning her eyes to look at me. “That is all I can ask for.” Leaning up, Mistheart whispered one last thing to me before she laid back down and closed her eyes, a smile on her face as she drifted off to StarClan.
Sitting back, I yowled in grief at the death of my deputy.
That night, after everyone had been attended to, I found myself sitting up on High Rock, about to do as Mistheart wished. “May all cats old enough to gather their own prey gather here beneath High Rock for a Clan meeting.” I yowled the familiar words watching as the wounded and others made their way into the clearing. Among the ones who had fought, only two had died. Mistheart and Rainbark.
Now I was standing before my Clan, after an intense battle with RiverClan over the place with which Mistheart’s kits would be staying about to do something I really didn’t want to only because it meant letting go of Mistheart.
"I say this before StarClan and the spirit of Mistheart, so that the spirits of our ancestors may hear and approve my choice. Bloompetal will be the new deputy of ThunderClan." I yowled, noting that many seemed surprised. After all, Bloompetal was extremely young. But, as I glanced over, I spotted Wolffur, Reddawn, and Fernsky and met their eyes, Wolffur smiled up at me, Reddawn nodded his head, and Fernsky. Beautiful Fernsky, flicked her tail giving me a soft look.
Looking to Silverpelt, I listened as the cats belong called out Bloompetal's name. 'I did as you wished Mistheart. I made Bloompetal deputy.'
“Thank you, she will make a great leader, when the time comes.” Mistheart mewed gently before disappearing in a shimmer.
