'Dukes' come up
Yee-haw! "The Dukes of Hazzard" - the big-screen reincarnation of the 1980s TV series about two good ol' boys, one good ol' car and two shapely legs - left everything else eating dust at the box office this weekend.
Starring Seann William Scott, Johnny Knoxville, Jessica Simpson, Burt Reynolds and Willie Nelson, the "Dukes" earned an estimated $30.6 million.

The goofy celebration of car chases, cheesecake and moonshine took in almost double the total for the second-place "Wedding Crashers," which made $16.5 million. But the raunchy "Crashers," starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, remains the surprise smash of the summer, having earned $144.1 million on a $40 million budget.

Johnny Depp's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" came in third, followed by Kurt Russell's "Sky High" and the John Cusack-Diane Lane romantic comedy "Must Love Dogs."

The world's best-dressed flightless bird also continued its extraordinary journey through American theaters. The documentary "March of the Penguins" added an additional thousand theaters and earned an estimated $7.1 million, putting it in sixth place for the weekend and running its total gross to $26.4 million. That makes it the second-highest-grossing documentary of all time, behind only Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Still, Hollywood didn't find much to cheer.

The weekend's top 12 films earned an estimated $102.7 million, the smallest total since mid-May, though it was slightly up from the same weekend last summer.
