With one last push, Ayeit was born into the world, screaming like a healthy child would. Her mother, Janyie smiled, relieved, as she watched her being washed in a basin of water by the local medicine man. "Here you are." he said, the baby wrapped up in red cloth.
They stayed there, letting Janyie recover for 5 days, before begining their walk home. "Aww, she looks just like you." Ayeit's father, Saeg said, in a deep calming voice. When they got back to their hut on the top of a grassy hill, a little away from the villiage, Saeg made a cradle out of thin air. "I know there are magic restrictions," he said to Janyie's cross expression. "But she can't sleep with us, or on the floor. Her expression lightened, and she nodded, placing the child in the bed.
During the night, the child squirmed under the woven blanket, making normal infant noises now and then. A soft mist was seen entering the hut, illuminating the interior, but not enough to wake the parents. It formed the shape of a woman, and she bent over and picked up the child, carrying it outside, under the stars.
"Child." the goddess said "I must bless you, for you were are born on the day I was created." Ayeit cooed, seeming to understand that she was not to be afraid of the soflty glowing woman. "Three gifts I give to you, and one curse. For all things good in life come with their bad sides. My first gift, is that you will remember everything I have said, and you will always remember this night. My second gift is the gift I gave to your father, on this very night hundreds of years ago. You will have great powers, and your powers will grow to exceed his. My third gift, is the one that brings a curse. Everytime you die, you will be reborn to someone in your blood line. But, every time you are reborn into a new body, part of your soul will vanish, return to me, and eventualy you will fade into a demon, heartless, mad, and evil. But I will give your soul back when I feel the time is right. Remember, you must have someone in the blood line to re-incarnate. But do not fear my love" for she had started to whimper. "I will always watch over you, and you will know that."
She brought the small girl back inside, and laid her in her bed. "Remember your first name." the goddess whispered "This is the time you can call yourself, True child." she kissed Ayeit, putting her at ease instanly and, then turned to the door, reverting to white mists as she strode, and faded back into the starry night.
