I got spontaneity bitches! >>> There are days that change the way we live our lives forever. These great changes can be good, bad, but never blah; they are always significant and tumultuous. Every person who has ever lived has experienced one of the days (some have experienced more than one day like this). No matter what they do there is nothing in the world that can alter or make them forget that day. Some of these days can be a good life experience: getting a huge promotion, winning the lottery, feeling the presence of God in their life. However, many are bad and horrible to go through: loss of limb, war/battle, the death of a loved one.
Jade Michel West finally had his life-altering day. The date was June 15, 2006, and his twin brother, Onyx, was dead, suffocated when the car he was driving went off of a bridge.
News like that can take the best out of people, and this certainly was true of Jade. His once happy and exuberant (if not slightly smart-a**) persona became dark and secluded in the manner of a few short hours. Onyx had been his rock, his shield, his pillar of strength. Jade feels as though half of his soul had gone. He now sees the world in a harsh new light, one that he may never have stepped under if not for the tragedy. Jade, once fearless and carefree, sweats the small stuff and is constantly afraid for the lives of those he loves.
Jade is afraid to befriend new people, because he does not want to love and lose them. He throws himself wholeheartedly into his volunteering ventures in the hope of saving just one life. It is a pitiful existence, and he knows it. Bitter is the taste of his new life, but he will not admit it to his friends. He has turned inward on himself to become cynical and sarcastic. He uses his sensitive stomach as an excuse to push people away under pretenses that no one wants to be with a sickly person when they turn green.
Yet his former self is lurking below the hard, polished surface. Underneath the bitter comments is the youthful carefree young man that once strolled the streets of San Francisco. He secretly yearns to let that old self shine through, but is afraid to dishonor Onyx’s spirit.
Jade lays in waiting for the person who will pull him from his stupor, whether through romance or friendship. He needs to fill this void.
For now, he defends himself with sarcasm and bitterness in a pathetic attempt to block out the hurtful world.
