Nate sat on the side of the bed and tested his foot on the ground. He looked up at Reisa and she nodded. Carefully, Nate pushed himself off of the bed and stood, swaying slightly.
He took a few steps forward and laughed. He was ready to go. Now all he had to do was locate their lair. And he was already starting on that.
I looked over at Cian’s sleeping form. That whole entire day had been spent chasing each other around the castle. Like a game of tag...only better. Of course, it had all started because I had taken the whipped cream that was on top of the pancakes and smushed it into his face. I just had the urge to do that. Especially since he had eaten the strawberries off of my pancakes. The strawberries were my favorite part.
But that was besides the point. Now that I knew all about Cian, I knew that the full moon, or full Earth as I called it, was only a few days away. All of his memories were mine and I knew that even if he transformed, unless he was really pissed off, he would still retain his human mind. So even if at this very moment, he transformed into a wolf, I knew I would be safe.
I sighed and snuggled against him.
Winry...
I bolted upright. “Oh s**t...” Cian sat up next to me and pulled me against his chest. I looked up at him. “Nate’s in my mind...” The cheerfulness that had been in his eyes vanished.
“This might hurt a little but I just need to find him through you, bear with me.” I nodded and kept eye contact with him. I felt the warm tingly feeling but it felt as if it was concentrated in one area. I felt Cian tighten his grip on me and he narrowed his eyes. The warmth was being concentrated again, to a pinpoint location and then it felt like...like...it was being drawn through me, like it was being sucked out. And then Cian broke eye contact and closed his eyes.
He tensed slightly at certain points before he opened his eyes and looked at me, his face urgent.
“Run.”
All sound disappeared, even when all of the glass broke, throughout the entire house. I could hear nothing. It pressed into my skull like a weight. The next thing I knew I was being carried. Cian was running through the castle to a blank wall. He set me down onto my feet and pushed a brick into the wall. The wall gave way into a secret passage.
Then sound returned. Though I wished it hadn’t. Screams, growls, and grunting was heard.
“AVA!” Cian shouted. She appeared from around a corner. “Take her to safety, don’t come back until I’ve sent word. Understand?”
Ava nodded and grabbed my hand, but not before Cian placed a passionate kiss on my lips. My knees almost gave out leaving Ava to shout “Come on! You can make a litter later. We have to go now!” I gained the feeling back into my knees and turned and ran. I glanced over my shoulder to see Cian giving a small wave, his eyes giving off their own light as the wall closed off the tunnel...
“What’s going on?” I choked out as Ava led me by the hand through the darkness. We stopped for a moment in a small patch of light from a crack.
“The vampire’s found our lair. That was their surprise attack...Damn them! I thought their leader would have been out for a few weeks tops. They cheated.”
My heart stopped for a moment. They had found the lair? But then...what? Did that mean Nate had used me to sense where they were?
Oh just wait until I get my hands on you...
“That might be sooner than you think...” a voice called out from the darkness. Ava stopped and pushed me behind her. Her eyes glowing silver.
“Ah, so one of you blood suckers got into here...”
A cruel laugh echoed in the tunnel. “I am smarter than you take me for, werewolf.”
I began to shiver. It was Nate. No doubt about it.
“What do you want?” I shouted out into the darkness.
Ava was suddenly pulled from my sight and a pair of red eyes glinted in the shadows.
“Come with me and I will order my men out of the castle, no one will be hurt.”
I stared at the eyes for a moment, until I saw a pair of silver ones open.
“Don’t...” Ava choked. Another silver glinted in the shadows only this had an edge. A knife was being pressed against her throat.
“Okok! Stop. Please. Just let her go. And give me your word that no one else would be harmed. I mean it. If you kill anyone...”
A chuckle vibrated the air. “Of course, my dear. Nothing will happen to the mutts, don’t worry.”
I bristled at the word “mutt” but I kept my mouth shut. I didn’t want Ava hurt. The knife disappeared and Ava was shoved forward. Suddenly inspired by a minor flashback I committed the world’s most stupidest things ever. The part of Beauty and the Beast, were the Beast shoves Belle’s father towards her after she promises her life to him flashed through my mind.
“Step into the light...” I said. If what I thought I was going to see I was going to see then I wanted to see it. Did you follow that?
There were a few footsteps and Nate appeared in the light. My knees gave out and I sank to the floor. His face...His fangs were visible, a few other teeth had sharpened too. His eyes burned red and his skin was drawn back onto his skull, showing the ropes of veins underneath. He must have been pretty pissed off right then and there.
I was numb, and sound was lost to me again as I stared a the stone floor. I vaguely heard Ava shout as I felt myself being lifted and carried. She jumped forward, but a swift kick in the ribs from Nate sent her to the floor, her head bounced off of the stone, leaving her unconscious and limp. And that’s all I remembered. I didn’t faint... I just draw a blank whenever I try to think about it...
