Okay, forgive me for sounding a little hypocritical but this is MY diary so I can be hypocritical!! blaugh It's my law!!
Today I was checking out Site Feedback (I guess I'm a glutton for punishment) and one thing I noticed was two posts about bringing back the "Ban User / Ignore User" button for threads.
Whilst I can see the positive uses for such a feature such as banning nasty / mean people who post abusive comments, pornographic imagery and whom act in a generally unpleasant way.
I can equally (Curse my two-sided brain) see a negative perspective towards such a feature; silencing of ideas, banning of people the OP (Original Poster) dislikes and other such undesirable outcomes.
So, in my infinite foolishness I think; "hay! I'll post!"
You see; these threads were both HIGHLY positive about the feature stating that it NEEDED to come back in the WAR ON TROLLS because you see Mods / staff are SOOOOO SLOOOOOW at looking in to reports / banning the right people.
So obviously these threads believe the necessary issue is to give us the power to stop these people right away. Which is fair enough, when used correctly for the intended reason. It will stop trolling straight away.
But then they spare no consideration to the negative potential.
So I post about it; I even give them a real-life past example. The Grunny Event, remember it ? When people were banned / ignored because they were not 'high level' enough?
One prolific poster tells me; this is "moot" because it's an example from 2-years ago.
neutral
Oh em gee. 2 years ago is considered TOO BACKDATED to be an example? Then WHY THE HELL are courts and legal systems still quoting original cases from the beginning of the justice system? Why the hell do we still quote theorists from Greece who were as OUTDATED as the BC era?
Just because it's the Internet does NOT mean the example has to be within like 2 minutes of an issue appearing.
So my example is an extreme one, but it is a valid example of a feature being abused.
This same poster stated that rather than being "elitist" during the Grunny Event these people were "maximising" their chances at getting the "Grommbie" skin.
neutral Mmm so that's the new word we are giving discrimination is it? Maximising.
Smells like bull to me. I don't appreciate being told that my view point is 'moot' either when I believe the example is still valid enough to justify what I'm saying.
Baaaaaaaaaaaah~
From this day I vow; No more Site Feedback for me, EVAR!
It's bad for my health!!

Oh and I was banned from lots of threads getting my grunny skin. Guess what, those that banned me from their threads already had theirs, clearly and were higher level. I thin it's a great example.
