"I am so totally over him." She said to her friends.
"Michelle, you so are not!" Erica retorted.
"I am!!" Michelle protested.
"You're not, admit it. You like him. You know you do." Steph put in.
"No, I don't! He got this haircut, and now he looks like a total loser." Michelle said.
"What does it look like?" Erica asked.
"It's shorter than Koji's!!" Michelle exclaimed.
"Oh, what?! You're so shallow!" Erica told her.
Michelle went over the phone conversation between Jayden and her a few days ago in her head.
"Steve wanted me to tell you something." He had said.
"What is it?" she had asked.
"Well..." he trailed off.
"Tell me!" She hated being kept from knowing something, especially if it was something about her.
"OK. I'll tell you." He said. "Steve said...he said he'd rather be just friends with you."
"OK..." Michelle said.
"Yeah, I'm sorry you had to hear it from me."
"Nah, it's cool. I don't really care any more. I don't like him. Not as more than a friend."
"OK. Umm, I have to go now. See ya."
"Bye."
For some strange reason, she didn't feel hurt. Not as hurt as she used to be when she had been rejected by other guys. Why was this? She did not understand it. Perhaps she had never liked him in the first place? Maybe she had not, but did not realise it...until now.
When she told her friends of the phone conversation, she did not get very many comments.
The only majorly memorable one was Margo's "What a tool!"
