Monkey Airplane Soldier
Be kind, please rewind.
Mom Poem and Lake Poem
Over winter break, I spent a lot of time with my mom. And weirdly enough, I actually feel like I've got one of those mother-daughter relationships that're always in the movies and stuff. Like on Gilmore Girls, except even quirkier? I don't know. Anyhow, my mom really made me feel better about something the other night, and I was also thinking about how much I'm like her in ways that I sometimes think only I can see, so I decided to write a poem.

Mom
You think that you’re not
Helpful
That I
don’t need you anymore

You think that you’re
Useless
That you
can’t mother me anymore

And yet you don’t realize
Where I
Look
when I need help

You don’t know just how
You fit
Into
My life and my heart

You can’t see how much
Of what
I do
Is because I learned from you

I’m made up of myself
But also
What
You have made me, mom

And when I feel so lost
Scared
Or sad
You know I need your hugs

You still surprise me, mom
With your
Insight
And how you understand people

You have no idea how
Much
I love
To make you laugh

I wish you could
See
The heart
You’ve given me

When I do something that’s right, it
Tends to
Come
From the part of me that’s you

My friends all say that I
Act
Like you
Sometimes, and I laugh

We are all turning into our mothers
And that
Is weird
For us, but I think it can be good

If I leave your room
Crying
You always
Call me back in and we talk

We drive each other crazy
And yet
I sometimes
Feel that it’s a war between my selves

You’ve always been someone
I can
Turn to
When I need guidance

But you’ve done what few
Mothers
Can do
You’ve taught me to guide myself

And knowing that a part
Of you
Is in me
Makes me stronger.

I love you, Mom.

Another poem, this one just something I came up with. I read Claire's journal and she said something about water bugs on a lake, and it put a picture in my head.
The Golden Lake
Caterpillars floating
Above a golden lake
Beautiful sunset
Violet, opaque
Trees speak
Of wondrous things
Of galloping creatures
Of magic on wings
Boulders, giant
And tall as the sky
Chocolatey brown
With a gleam in their eye
A soft whistle
Pervades the air
Low and calm
A breath of care
Warmth surrounding
All your skin
Sweetly pleasant
Soak it in
Creatures buzz
Around your ears
Whispering secrets
To life without tears
A rhino moans
On a distant mount
A yawn of strength
Proud years without count
The sky is everywhere
Flowing and fading
Teal and yellow
Gentle and laden
With building colors
Blues of the sea
And a scent surrounds
Like rosemary
The earth is soft
And cushions bare feet
Green and feathery
Alive with the heat
Of the worlds inside
The underground
Where shining beatles
Dance around
A constant drumming
Like that of a heart
Brings the world to one;
No longer apart
The bark of ages
Now long past
Gives the branches wisdom
And makes time last
A stormy blue horse
Colored rich and deep
A god of the trust
In your heart you keep
His eyes are pure gold
And filled with intent
You instantly know
That he is your friend
The lake glimmers golden
Glistening like a gem
Its yellow ripples
From the sleeping soul within
The gorgeous fruit
Crimson as blood
Juicy as heaven
And ripe as fresh mud
Take a bite
Of the chocolate plants
Each seed bursts with lusciousness
Each flower with chants
Of the wonderful things
To be done every day
By the smell of the river
And the banks of warm clay.

Wow....I don't know what to say. That second poem....The Golden Lake. I can honestly and truly say that when I was reading that poem, I could feel every muscle in my body relaxing, I couldn't hear or see anything around me....all that I could see was that wondrous place which you were describing. It made me go to a happy place, where your beautiful, colorful, extravagant, and even musical descriptions of the things there were being created as I read. It was amazing....I think I might print this out and just REEEADDD this when I'm having one of my freak outs and I need to just reellllaaaaaaxxxxxx......

I can honestly say that this is one of THE most magical and beautiful poems I've ever read.

Aww...that mom poem is so sweet...and so true!

The Golden Lake is my favorite of the two. It reminded me of Palawopec....until I got to the Rhino. My only suggestion on this poem: to me, the "you" kills it. If I were you, I would get rid of any You's or Your's in there. I mean, you have all this beautiful descriptions throughout the poem, not relating to the the reader, but then you involve the reader in those two lines with the blue horse. I think that it is out of place and unnecessary. I mean, the poem DOES relate to the reader. The reader can see the spectacle just as if it were going on right in front of him or her, even though it isn't. Do you understand that? I don't know how to really describe it. It's like with the 4th wall in acting. This is one of those situations when you don't want to break it.

Other than that, I absolutely LOVE it!! mrgreen heart

The first one made me go *agoogoogoo* like Claire when she thinks something is cute... it's so sweet... whee

The second one has awesome imagery and it rhymes, but not like stupid rhyming, like GOOD rhyming!

FANTASTICAL.
