Freedom… Is it just a fleeting dream? Can we truly be free? We cast away the shackles of one ruler, only to be shackled by a new ruler. It seems to truly be free, you must die, but death itself is a prison from which you never escape. That is, assuming that there is an afterlife. Whether we are truly free depends on one’s opinion. Opinions of freedom vary, but this is simply because we are all different.
In truth, our very knowledge is what keeps us from being free. Because we have our minds, we think we are superior. Because we think we are superior, we try to dominate all. Because we try to dominate all, we fight each other. If were to forget our superiority, we may be able to become truly free. Of course, forgetting our superiority makes us weak, and if someone was to remember their superiority, they could easily dominate everyone.
We are also a slave to technology. Technology may enable us to communicate with people on the other side of the world almost instantly; we give up much of our lives in front of a computer or on a phone. To be free, we would need to abandon technology, which even I would be reluctant to do.
I do not believe that ‘true’ freedom is worth its price. For in exchange for freedom, we have protection.
