50 Cent in bitter-sweet Bx
All 50 Cent fans in the Bronx had to do to see their favorite hip-hop star yesterday was look out their windows.
That's because the 26-year-old drug-dealer-turned-music-maker was busy filming his first feature-length movie, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," on the streets of High Bridge.

Most folks thought the spectacle of actors milling about amid cameras, klieg lights and props on their street was exciting.

But others were annoyed that the moviemakers, helped by cops, shut down an area bounded roughly by McClellan St., Jerome Ave., E. 169th St. and Gerard Ave., closing stores and businesses and making it difficult to get around.

"It astounds me that people who use these stores every day can't today because some rapper is making a movie," said nursing student Katrina Latimore, 29.

Gesturing at some of the nearly two dozen police officers in the area, she added, "There has never been this many cops up here when people are getting robbed."

But store cashier Angel Velez, 22, was ecstatic. "I got to see 50 Cent and that was mad good. It was the first time I ever got to see a star. It put a big smile on my face."

Shop owners were smiling, too. Some said 50 Cent's crew reimbursed them for lost business. One said he got $5,000 to stay closed for the week.

The movie, directed by Jim Sheridan, who also helmed "In America," is described as a drama about a drug dealer who turns away from crime to pursue his passion, rap music.
