I woke up in a daze, my fan spinning above me. I had been sweating, and the first thing I noticed was the cool breeze. I sat up, uncovering the half of myself that was covered. I looked at my digital alarm clock. 4:20 a.m. I walked in the darkness of my room searching for the bathroom, my hands outstreched in front of me. I found the door and slowly opened it, flicking on the light as I entered. I looked in the mirror to see a girl wearing her baggy shirt and loose sweat pants, rubbing her tired eyes as she walked to the shower.
I took as long as i could take a cold shower, scrubbing my hair whith shampoo and conditioner, washing my body, trying to get the smell of sweat off. I got out after 20 minutes and grabbed a towel in my cabnet. I went into my room and dug through my dresser for my school cloths as I dried off. I put on my cloths in a hurry, running to the bathroom to comb my hair and brush my teeth. After I finished, I turned around and walked out, flicking off the light as I passed. I opened my door to my mom, who looked almost the exact way I did when I woke up.
"Honestly, honey," she said, rubbing her eyes,"If you were going to wake up before I could get you up, why bother asking me to get you up at all?"
"Sorry mom," I sympothized, "I had a rough night."
"The dream again?" she asked. I nodded and sighed. "We'll have to get you a dream catcher." She walked down the hall back to her room. I stepped out into the hall closing my door behind me.
"Dont go back to sleep now, you have work today." I bellowed as she opened her door and walked in.
"I'll try not to. Your dad's awake, by the way." She said.
"I hope he's not trying one of his cooking experiments again." I groaned, "I just want something edible for once."
"Complain to your dad then, not me." She said, closing the door behind her. I Sprinted down the stairs and headed for the kitchen, smelling the aroma of pancakes, at least i hoped it was pancakes. I turned the corner, relieved, to see dad cooking what I thought he was cooking. I sat at the table eagerly, watching him flipping the pancakes.
"Good morning, Aquene." He said. "Are you hungry?"
"Very." I replied. "No experimental food coarses today?" I teased.
"Ah ha, very funny." He said, flipping a pancake on to a plate with the rest of them."I thought that you might want to acctually eat something for your first day of Sophmore year."
"Thanks dad." I said. He put some of the pancakes on another plate and put them in front of me on the table. He grabbed the butter and syrup as well and set the right next to me. I grabbed the knife sitting next to my plate.
"Bon apetitè." He said, going back over to the stove. "Do you think your mom's hungry?"
"I dont know, she'd just woken up when I was heading out of my room. Have you seen Sparrow?"He turned and looked at the window behind him.
"He's there." I looked and saw my beautiful tortis-shell calico cat,Sparrow. I called him that because he always seemsed to think he could fly. He'd jump off of the highest things he could get to only to land on his feet. Sparrow looked at me from the window and nodded slightly.
"Hello my lazy, yet wonderful cat."I said. He got up and streched, then jumped from the window-sill to the floor and came up to me, meowing. "Alright, alright. "I got up and grabbed his milk from the fridge, pouring some into his bowl. He galloped to it, lapping it up happily as I put the milk away."A horse today?" I asked, "Give up on flying yet?" He seemed to snicker at me. I sat back down, putting butter and syrup on my pancakes. I ate them quickly, glancing at the clock on the wall. 5:30. I got up, putting my empty dish in the sink.
"Go check on your mom, make sure she hasn't gone back to bed." Dad said, turning off the stove.
"Kay." I ran up the stairs and jogged to mom's room. Sparrow trotted behind me. I knocked on the door a few times. "Mom? You haven't gone back to bed, have you?"
"No, I haven't."She said. She opened the door right after she said that, brushing her hair."So, has Matt made you try any weird, unedible foods?"
"No," I replied, "He made normal pancakes today, and they're pretty good." I started walking back down the hall to my room.
"Alright, I hope you dont mind, we have to leave at 6 today, I have to get to work early. You wouldn't mind waiting an hour and a half before walking to school, would you?"
"No, i'll just pack some things to keep me up until then." I went into my room and collected my scattered school supplies from around my bed and shoved them into my bag. I grabbed my cd player too, shoving it into the front pocket of my bag. I closed my bag as I pulled on my shoes. I snatched my cellphone and money for lunch and shoved them in my pocket. I grabbed my bag and ran out of my room. Sparrow was waiting patiently by the door, so I almost ran over him. I closed the door and ran down the stairs. I grabbed a book I extremely liked called Twilight from the coffee table and speed-walked into the kitchen. "I'll be seeing you later, dad." I said. I turned around and shouted upstairs, "Mom!Let's go!" I opened the front door as she ran down the stairs, struggling to put her earing in. She grabbed her keys and her purse as she walked out the door. "Bye Sparrow! Be good!" I shouted as I closed the door.
