The weather stayed dry but slightly overcast and breezy for the arrival of the Royals for Prince William's graduation ceremony.
The Prince of Wales, Camilla, who is known in Scotland as the Duchess of Rothesay, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, attended to see the prince collect his academic accolade from St Andrews University.
Hundreds of people lined the streets with many locals looking out of their windows and standing in doorways eager to catch a glimpse of the Royal party.
Among the crowd was Sybil Gray, 72, who lives in St Andrews. She said: "I think it is lovely that Prince William has had so much peace and quiet during his time at the university.
"There is a great degree of interest in seeing him, and also the Duchess of Rothesay who looked resplendent. I also got a good look at the Queen who I thought looked very well and happy to be at her grandson's graduation."
Prince William said he was delighted he could share the occasion with his family. William's words and his invitation to the Duchess to attend appear to welcome her into the royal fold.
The Prince also paid tribute to the Queen, who it was feared would have to pull out after catching a bad cold earlier this week.
William, 23, expressed his sadness at leaving St Andrews in Fife, Scotland.
He said: "Today is a very special day for me and I am delighted that I can share it with my family, and in particular with my grandmother, who has made such an effort to come, having been under the weather."
William, who is hoping to enlist in the army, has already passed his first round of tests to train at Sandhurst like Prince Harry.
