Power Beyond Imagine - Chapter 6
Chapter 6 - Demons

Thaniel turned towards the pounding door. Ice chipped at my stomach against the wishes of the glow, which melted it away with a furiousity. The voice on the other side of the door gave a scream and my stomach went icy again. It was really an awkward sensation. My stomach would freeze and out of nowhere, be melted. And the voice would scream.

"Hide," Thaniel whispered.

I gave him big eyes. "Where the hell do you think I should do that?"

"Go to my room. Get in the closet and feel around. There will be a hidden door in there on the left wall. Get in there and stay quiet."

I turned and ran off to the door in the living room. I opened it and was faced with the bathroom. Closing it, I went to the door on the opposite side and found his room. Just as I closed the door, I heard the owner of the voice enter the apartment. Not really bothering to notice the decor (or lack there of) of the room, I ran into the closet, closed the door and stumbled around.

"Damnit, Thaniel," I whispered. "Where the ******** is it?"

My hand found the knob and I pushed, going into a little walkway-type room. After closing the door, I walked down to the end and crouched, making myself as tiny as possible. The room was bare of everything but dust. I could see this because the glow about my body was lighting the room.

s**t s**t s**t I thought.

Voices were coming through the wall. I perked my ears up and listened.

"Where is she, Thaniel?" The voice said.

"Sam, chill.."

Sam gave a shrill laugh. "Chill? CHILL!? I'm freezing everything I come in contact with, you nut! Make her make it go away!"

"Samantha, relax. By getting overly excited, you will have less controll, you know that. Breathe, okay? Breathe."

"Where the ******** is she?!?!?!" I could hear her slamming about in the house, knocking things over and screaming. My stomache kept repeating the earlier process. Everytime I melted, she'd scream louder.

"Damnit! Where are you!?!?!"

Stop, please, I pleaded in my brain. God, please stop. Calm down. Please please, relax. Please relax....

The noise quieted slowly. Soon I heard weeping. A quiet, painful weeping. My heart gave a few pangs of sympathy. After a few minutes, I heard Thaniel's voice.

"Ivi, come on out now...."

Slowly, I came out of the hidden place. Then into his room. Cautiously, I peeked into the living room, where sam lay helpless and weeping on the floor, Thaniel above her. His eyes locked with mine, and I saw something moving behind his eyes. Something big and lethal.

"Sam's powers have kicked in," He said.

I blinked. "That was the freezing feeling I felt?"

He nodded. "It got worse the more she fought your power." He held out a hand to me. "Come here."

Grabbing the hand, I tryed again to be scared. No avail still, but I tried real hard. Sam raised her pale face surrounded by all that pale blue hair to my own. Tears like ice leaked down her skin, pealing it off layer by layer.

"Help me, please?" She whispered, shaking. The floor around her was freezing over. A sheet of ice that slowly crawled further and further out into the rest of the room. Her fingers were so plae and deathly looking.

"I don't know how," I breathed, looking down.

"Just let your power out," Thaniel coached. "You'll just have to learn as you go."

I looked at his eyes full on. A gasp escaped me and fear finally won over.

His eyes were hard. The blue was gone, replaced by a rusty, bloody red color. Something seemed to move behind them, begging to come out. He blinked and the image became even stronger.

"Your....your eyes....."

"I'm doing my best, here, Ivi," He grumbled with a voice going gravely. "Fix sam and then pay attention to me."

I nodded and kneeled besides Sam. I tooke her deathly hands in my own and stared her in the eyes. They were so icy, so sad. Fear filled them so completely with a hint of desparation, i got my own pang of pain for her again.

"Please....." She murmurred, throwing herself into my arms. "I'm scared..."

I stroked her hair. It was slowly becoming brittle, like tiny ice cicles. Her body rocked against mine with her icy tears. She was so cold, like she was freezing.

THe glow exploded out of me, bringing a gasp and a wave of confidence. I knew, now. Something in me finally knew. I could fix this. Controll her power, ride it down. I just had to let myself.

Embrace me, I whispered through my brain. Embrace my power. Acknowlege my power over yours, and I'll help you.

It was like a wall came crashing down. As Sam whispered "yes," a barrier broke. My warmth smashed into her body, melting the ice. Something in my knew that it was almost too late. Her body had started to freeze itself. Her heart melted in my power, and I felt her grab hold of it. Embrace it. Sam surrendered herself to my mercy, trusting that I could fix it. And I could.

Remain calm. Embrace the warmth of the world, even as you freeze it. Only then can you become what you were meant to be. Even ice has a bit of warmth.

Sam gave a shuddering breath and pulled away. Her eyes were back to her normal icy color, but without the pain, the fear, the ice. Her skin went back to having life, her hair melted to what it should be. The ground beneath us unfroze, all of it absorbing into her legs. She watched it and smiled a bit.

"I was dying..." She whispered. "You saved me....you could have crushed me....taken my powers.....instead...."

A groan from the other side of the room caused her to stop. I looked over and Thaniel was doubled up, his skin rippling.

"Thaniel?!" I cried, standing.

Sam gave a terrified scream, then clutched at her throat. I watched as she twisted about, trying to breathe. Tears twisted out of my eyes.

Something drove me over to Thaniel. His skin was hardening, becoming a rocky orange. Pulling his face up to mine, I shoved my power into him, taking hold of his own. His eyes widened. I could feel him rejecting me, my power. I also felt Sam's life drifting away and into Thaniel.

You can't kill her, ma beau morte, i whispered to his power with my own. If you kill her, you truly will be a monster.

He gave a cry of frustration, trying to rip himself from my grasp.

Stop fighting me. Stop. Let me help you. I can make it stop.

Thaniel fought and fought against me. Soon, I had wrapped myself around him, forcing every ounce of the glow into his rocky body.

Ma beau morte, accept the life you have so long rejected. Accept life. Accept that everything breaths, everything lives everyday. Accept that, even though you feel so dead on the inside.

He twitched hard, trying to throw me off.

Accept my love, Thaniel! Accept it and know what it is to be alive!

He gave one loud shout of pain and gave in. My power flooded him, shoving the life of Sam back into her. Over the roar of my power taking hold of Thaniel's, I couldn't hear Sam breathe again, but I knew she did. I gripped the death that tryed to steal Thaniel's life instead of Sam's and reigned it. Forced it back into it's cage. It fought against me, a black against a glow, but goodness, life, happiness always wins.

I came back to myself, panting hard. My face was wet with the few tears I'd leaked fighting back Thaniel's demons. I say demons because that's what it was. Death wasn't his power. Spirit was. Death was the demon that needed to be conquered before he could handle his power.

And I knew we were no where near done with that demon.

Thaniel burried his face into my shoulder and gave a shuddering breath. I held on tight, letting him hold onto life.

"I'm sorry, Thaniel," I whispered. "I'm sorry you feel so dead on the inside."

he shuddered agian and continued to hold on to me.

"I promise it won't get you. I won't let your demons suck you under."
