Kudos to my English professor in High School for hardwiring this concept into my system.
Okay, people, listen up. If you're going to post a semi-intelligent post in a semi-intelligent topic, please be able to back it up. I'm getting really pissed off reading posts by people who have obviously never read a single book or article on the subject they are discussing. They parrot, or just guess at what's going on, and make themselves look like idiots. Worse yet is when they can actually type, and thus, others believe their information and take it for fact.
FACT: Not every inteligable person on Gaia has factual posts. If you want to know if someone is really correct, www.google.com . RESEARCH.
(Ironically, if you were to follow my advice, you wouldn't believe me right away. What a conundrom. I can say this is fact because I have done my research throughout the forums and found this to be true. However, some of you may not have done so, and therefore cannot believe me.)
In corrolation to that rant, I also dislike it when people only know their opinion in a debate. How in God's name am I supposed to have a decent debate with you if you only know one side? You know the saying 'know your enemy'? Well, it's pretty accurate. If you're going to debate, at least understand both sides, so if I go to refute your side, you can do the same for mine. A purely defensive arguement is an incredibly weak one.
On a side note, I'm not a scary b***h. I'm not going to rip your head open if you have a viewpoint that oposes my own. On the contrary, I'd love to see a comeback. Don't just run away from me if I refute your post. Stand up for it. Be proud of it. Of course, if you refute me with "You're a b***h" or "That's not true," without giving examples of it not being true, you're really not woth my time.
I guess what this rant was trying to say was that people shouldn't post things without knowing what it is they're posting. I really hate reading through my regular threads and seeing that people have posted in them, and obviously know next to nothing about them. And then, they won't listen when someone tries to correct them.
Well that's about it for this entry. Have fun in Gaialand, and remember, bring Google and a dictionary.
