The days passed like they were years until the day Serenity and Norma had to move with their father. They were moving to China. Their father bought the house before the mother died and still wanted to go. They had to take a plane for five hours to get there.
“Serenity, Norma hurry up we need to leave soon. We need to be out of the house at ten o clock” Mark the father yelled up to his daughters.
Serenity came down with her black hair flowing down her shoulders and her golden green eyes gleaming with her twin following, both wearing raspberry red lipstick carrying a bag full of stuff that they own.
“Good, now eat something and let us get going” Mark exclaimed getting up and walking out doors to get the paper.
Serenity and Norma had already learned Chinese so before their father could even understand Chinese they talk in that language. “Lai he cha” have some tea, Norma said listening to the kettle ring.
“Ni zuo ba, wo lai” you sit, I’ll get it, Serenity responded getting up and pouring some tea for both of them. Bringing the tea back they drank it down and ate a muffin then read a book and by the time it was ten they were sitting in the back of the car and being driven away to go to the airport.
When they got on the plane Serenity took out her I-pod and turned on her favorite song. She put one of the earplugs into Norma’s ear and they fell asleep on the plane dreaming of what they could do in China. When they arrived they were waken up by their father who was saying, “This is where you will live from now on.”
At once both girls said, “Oh, I hope we can make friends.”
The father looked over at them as if wanting to say something but nothing came out of his mouth. He got up and the girls followed and they left the airport still listening to music. They called a taxi and went to the new house.
“Hao piao liang” how pretty, Serenity said when they came to the manor which they lived in.
“Our money was worth a lot here so we’re rich,” Mark explained.
“Great if people find out they might hate us” Norma whispered to her sister.
“I know” Serenity replied. “Only wait till they find out we are twins.”
There was complete silence for some time when they were unpacking until Serenity blasted music and it echoed through out the manor. Her voice also did that when she started to sing Tatu and Smile DK the occasional Freezepop, A Thorn For Every Heart, and even Death Cab for Cutie (it was a good thing she was a good singer). She ran down the stairs singing and asked her father for some paint which he gave to her and she ran back up the stairs. Norma also came down for paint for her room. Serenity asked for brown, black, pink, red, and orange, and other colours like that. Norma asked for blue, orange, purple, and colours like that. In the end music was heard through out the house while Serenity painted her room like a cherry blossom orchard on the Cherry Blossom Festival and Norma painted her room like the undersea full of fish and creature of the deep. Their rooms smelt very much like you were there, Serenity’s like the festival and Norma’s… very salty just the way she liked it.
“Girls it’s time to eat” Mark called from the kitchen with rice and meat out for them to eat.
The girls came walking through the halls singing and talking about what they would wear tomorrow for school. “Mmm… smells good I didn’t know you could cook” Norma laughed.
They all sat down to eat and chatted about what they were going to do tomorrow. “I think I will wear… I will get A in…” that was all they would talk about.
When they were done eating both girls ran off and blasted music and sang along. They finished painting their rooms, by the time they were done it was eleven o clock.
**Yawn** “Good night sis” Norma yelled so Serenity could hear.
In response Serenity yelled “good night.”
In the morning Serenity walked down the halls with raspberry lipstick and black shirt and a black creased skirt, whenever she tilted her head back it looked as if she had a secret that you were dying to hear. Norma on the other hand was wearing a pink lipstick and a white shirt and white creased skirt, when she tilted her head it looked as if she were about to laugh (in a good way).
“Morning” they both said picking up what they needed for school and left.
“I… though twins dressed alike,” Mark said once they left.
Once they got to school everyone gave them a look indicating the questions: is it twin day today? Are they new? Are they twins? Who are they? Are they dating anyone?
“Like all my nightmares have come true they despise us,” Norma whispered to her sister.
“You are so wrong the way they are looking at us means they have questions not hatred” Serenity laughed quietly.
