Stupidity
This is a true story:
There were construction men digging on a field. As they were digging they had a supervisor who was watching them from the top of the shallow pit. Some of the men got curious and started wondering why they had to be supervised digging. "I mean we're grown men and know how to dig" was what some of the men would say. Finally, one man mustered up the courage and confronted the supervisor. "Why must you watch us dig? Shouldn't you be in your office? Do you doubt that we are not either responsible nor smart enough to just dig?" the worker asked. "One word my man: stupidity," replied the supervisor. "I don't understand sir." "Hmmm... Follow me and I'll show you." The supervisor led the worker to a long metal pole protruding out of the ground. The supervisor raised on of his hands and put it in front of the pole. "Hit my hand as hard as you can with with your shovel," he said. "If you insist," replied the worker as he picked up his shovel hesitantly for a strong swing. As the worker was midway through his swing, the supervisor swiftly pulled his hand out of the way and the shovel met nothing but pole vibrating violently in a spasm. "No to you understand?" the supervisor inquired, watching the shocked worker. "Ya..Ye..Yes sir," blurted the worker in a search for words. He was still confused but didn't question his superior any further. As the worker went back onto the field his fellow workers rushed up to him and started asking, " what'd he say?" "He said something about stupidity," replied the worker. "Meaning," the others said impatiently. "Here, I'll show you," said the worker as he raised one of his hands. "Hit my hand as hard as you can." One of the other workers raised his shovel without hesitation and swung as hard as he could at the hand. Unfortunately, the worker who was holding up his hand had it right in front of his face. As he pulled his hand away the shovel slammed into his face mercilessly. It was at that second that the workers understood what stupidity meant.
