It would be naive and reckless to allow the federal government to take any means necessary to put an end to discrimination since there is no realistic form of putting a permanent end to such views. Everyone discriminates against another but most are unaware of these actions. Humanity's minds cannot be easily modified to fit one mold without the government taking total control of their thoughts and actions. A person's prejudices stem from experiences, surroundings as a child and what they were taught to believe as growing up.
The majority of society does not realize how much they exercise preconceived notions towards others. It usually isn't intentional but prejudice is an epidemic that has infected all like a virus and caused its hosts to separate and divide from each other. There is a large variety of different types of discrimination. Stereotyping is assuming the nature of a group of people, how they live and how they think. Ageism is one not based on outer attributes but with phobias or fears regarding the youth, elderly or even children and babies. Not all prejudices have to do with the way people appear. Gender role or "gender superiority" is one based on that either male or female is dominant. With this people might subconsciously view a woman as weak or needing assistance with one or more things. Men are thought of being stronger and being able to take care of themselves. No one can say for sure that they have never judged someone negatively before knowing the facts for saying this would be a grand lie.
Ill-informed opinions about others usually derive from individual's experiences, their surroundings and what they were taught to believe as growing up. Incidents large or small can influence someone's opinions on characteristics of people. It is psychological and creates how that person views the world. Though prejudice often alienates many individuals, ironically it also gives a certain relationship. Through intolerance, fear, abhorrence, and the threat of a common enemy, a negative integrate is conceived. Examples of this would be: military patriotism, in nationalism, and in any situation where a group identifies itself in terms of what it is not". Many times it grows into a "pathological setting of internal hostility, often perpetuated through the family itself."
For any type of prejudice to be obliterated from the face of this world a dominant control would have to be enforced. The human mind would have to be oppressed and altered to fit the standards of the group and not the individual. By doing this all of humanity would have to be put under Totalitarianism rule. Authoritarianism is closely related to this in the sense that the governing body rules by maintaining strict obedience in all its citizens but with some freedom. Many do not understand the tremendous measures that would be brought upon them to create a utopia of sort. It would be done in a gradual manner that will evolve so that nothing seems like it "changed".
It is a foolish idea for the people to give their consent to the federal government to use any means possible to end discrimination. Only by using extremes and utilizing one governing body with complete rule over everyone's behavior and thoughts could such a conclusion be made.
*note: this is my essay for world geography, I would have written more but it needed to fit on one page. I had many more thoughts that could've have been put.
