• WYOMING MEMORY
    by UC Poika

a green that stretches miles in every way
my eyes watch the antelope and mule deer
like in size to Minnesota insects and flies
grazing on haystacks trucked in from the north
a shadow lights on the valley from the west
cast by the mountains hiding the sunset there
but halfway up the mountain sides on the east
sunlight refuses to yield to the coming night
but the cattle know better heading to the barn and sleep
as evening falls over the ranch in the end,
supper is served, cured bacon and baked beans,
with buttered greens and fresh bread made from scratch
no computer there, not even electric lights,
but for a red haired girl in a jeep there’s mountain top TV
