Chapter 1
Five more minutes and he’s late I thought. I became increasingly inpatient as the seconds ticked by. This always works I though fishing a pack of cigarettes and a lighter from my knapsack. I quickly lighted it and sucked in the sweet taste of the tobacco, it quickly served its intended purpose releasing all the tension that was knotted and laced within my bones.
I watched the smoke in the night air as it turned and twisted like a belly dancer. Something caught the attention of my ear, the crunching sound of footsteps on the gravelled path coming towards me slow and steady. 9:58 and he’s still not here. The footsteps seized and all I could hear were the crickets in the surrounding bushes.
“It’s pretty late for a treasure like you to be out here all by yourself, is it not?”
“It shouldn’t concern you, furthermore, your presence was not requested her so please escort yourself to wherever it is needed.”
“You should watch that mouth of yours; you might get yourself into some very serious business baby.”
That’s what did it. I swiftly removed my silver pistol from its leather sheath on my hip under my linen shirt and shoved it right under his chin resting on his throat.
“Please leave before you end up speechless.”
He smirked and looked down on the pistol at his throat. He reversed and walked away not the least bit threatened by my words. I didn’t think on it much, he was probably a lunatic living on the streets. A vehicle entered at the top of the road with its headlights pouring pools of light in front of it. Alright, Finally I thought. It gently ambled down the gravelled path and stopped, the engine shut off and Elias hopped from it. He marched over to where I was standing with his arms folded then he slapped his palm to his face.
“Just what are you doing with that pistol? No, forget it, I don’t want to know.” The surprise had left his voice by the end of his sentence
“10:04 you’re late, Thanks for being punctual.”
“And it’s always nice to see you sister deary.” Elias said while heaving her bag into the trunk of the jeep and then making his way back to the driver’s seat. He glanced over at Khloe, “buckle up please; this ride isn’t exactly going to be smooth.” I ignored his comment and strapped myself in.
