Chapter 2: A Man Named Cedrick
I had the dream again, the one where I was standing in the center of the street. Which one eludes me but, the events were always the same. I would always go over the little memories I had left from when the world came crashing down. It started with the ground splitting in two, the rock shattered and spewed hot rocks and of course. The mecks. I don’t know how they originated, but I do remember what they are. Vaguely I always saw the many forms of the mecks crawling from the crevice, machines, of pure evil. They rotted the very air, from maws to zeralians they all only had one goal (as far as im able to tell) to survive. How are the able to do that? By sapping lives from us, organics, any form of flesh was reduced to dust at even a simple touch to the creatures cold metal shell. Of every shape and size the crawled out, the buildings burned, and people were slaughtered. In this dream the only thing I could hear were the peoples shrieks, even though they had no faces. Always blank, always emotionless but I could feel the fear hidden deep inside them. I was never targeted, and in this dream I never seemed to feel any emotions for these people. My clothes always a dull blue, tattered and burned, as I walked down this singular street my eyes only focused at the flame at the end of it. Once I reached it, it flickered and burned a dull blue, the same as my clothes. At that exact same moment would always feel a cold presence. So chilling that the flames would freeze, as did time. I turned to face the source, and standing fairly far away.
A figure stood staring back at me, tall and slender, this man wore a thick and dark trench coat. Deep purple glasses and had but a small tuft of hair atop his head. His pale complection made apparent by the light the still flames continued to give off. This man never said anything, only approached me, continuously walking until he reached an arms length from me. I had no idea who this man was, but the namedCedrick came to mind. These experiences had always been so vivid in my mind I had always assumed that these were the memories of what happened when the mecks appeared. The man named Cedrick held out his hand in what would seem as an offer of friendship smirking his sinister smirk. I couldn’t but back away, him being one of the few things I fear. The second I my foot touched back, my throat was collapsed and I was in the air. The man named Cedrick holding me up with his single arm, I didn’t squirm or cry out in pain, I simply stared down at him blankly, he looked forward not even acknowledging me. Unfortunately it was at this angle that I could see the man named Cedrick’s eyes. No pupil, no iris simply to large red lights, hidden by his glasses. My breath stopped and my eyes dulled, lips pursed and fist’s clenched. It was this point that this became a true nightmare, time started up again but it sped up. The man named Cedrick’s smirk turned quickly to a displeased frown, still not giving me a glance I was dropped and the mystery named Cedrick was gone instantly from my life. From my memories, only to be recalled only, and every time I slip into unconsciousness.
This is when I woke up in the city, I wandered, hiding from the mecks, only hoping to survive for the next day. A few weeks past it must’ve been until I found other survivors, some of them were loud and strong, others were meek and quiet. Some all alone, some still holding their families. We lived, survived, slept, talked with each other never leaving the group. With no memories of my past I uncovered what had happened, and learned how accurate these dreams were. All seemed as if it would be as normal as I could possibly have it (considering some factors).
Until a second great event, it happened one day, a cold day, the breezes carried the scent of the mecks and flesh in the wind.
It started with a great explosion coming from one direction. Then a great flash of light, we saw it approaching from the horizon, but within a minute it was upon us, the cement engulfed in this flash was instantly incinerated. As was our flesh, everyone around me died an instant death, but whatever greater force had created such a magnificent power had much worse plans for me. The flash knocked me into the air and across the sky. I fell into a deep sleep, gliding through the air. I awoke in a strange place the buildings still left standing, ruble and glass scattered about. That leaves me where I am now, New York.
