A winter night,
Snow on the ground.
I tread softly with my nightgown flowing in a dreamland
Of an enchanted forest.
The moon is full like the swollen belly of a pregnant woman.
My dark brown hair glows like a golden halo
In the fragmented moonlight,
Broken up by the barren tree branches.
I hear the soft bubbling and gurgling of a small stream,
Somewhere in the depths of this forest of dreams.
My feet move on their own,
Picking a path that they seem to remember from long ago,
Heading in the direction of the slow moving water.
I hear faint singing, as I get closer to the stream.
I see the figure of a man in the distance,
With shimmering wings like moonbeams protruding from his back.
I silently walk closer,
Not wanting to scare away this beautiful moon creature.
The singing stops.
We stare into each other’s eyes,
Each of our gazes seeping into the others’ soul.
I move closer and so does he.
Our faces are inches apart,
Our breaths mingling together,
Our souls joined as one.
He reaches for my face but I do not flinch.
His lips gently caress my own…
I wake up with a start.
The dawn light warm and promising of love.
I touch my lips still feeling the moon elf’s kiss.
I pull my fingers to the of front of my eyes.
I fill with wonder at what I see.
There on the tips of my soft rosy fingers,
Was a glittering frost.
The very same that covered the elf’s lips.
I smile, knowing in my heart,
That I have found my shimmering moonlight love.
