His fingers laced hers as the walked along the stolen garden that dark stormy night. The storm was raging, bitterly cold as it pounded on their head, but neither cared. A lightening strike lit the surrounding gardens, the gardens that had only been walked in by one woman, by one person before.
He smiled at her, his crystal eyes lively and gazing deeply into her own. "Kuri" he whispered, watching as a single tear slipped down her paling cheeks.
She smiled back at him, though a bit half-heartedly. "So much has changed, Dapon. What are we going to do?..."
He pulled her close against him, feeling her heart beating weakly against his chest. He kissed her forehead, not knowing the pain that was deep in her heart, that was cutting her inside. "Kuri," he whispered tenderly, looking deep into her eyes. "It wasn't your fault, you know that right?" She shook her head and let herself be held, forcing back the tears that longed to fall freely. "It is my fault, Dapon. If it wasn't for my stupid vision--"
"I'd be dead Kuri," he held her close, letting her bury her face against him as the tears broke free of their captivity.
Not far across the castle grounds, several eyes were watching the two walk across the way.
"I don't know why you did it highness," amal hissed, his eyes flaring as he turned to her. "Can't you see how much pain you wracked on her. The anguish, the responsiblity."
"Silence, Amal," she whispered, watching the two. "There is a reason for everything I do."
Dapon guided her to a small area set away from the others, where the rain couldnt penetrate the lush surroundings. He pulled her to a small bench and just held her close. "There's soemthing I should tell you Kuri," he said softly, after a few minutes of listening to her sobs.
She scooted as close to him as she could, nestling her head under his chin, her eyes closed and her voice shaky. "What is it Dapon?"
He grew quiet for a moment, curious what to say to her, or rather, how to say it. "Kuri... I--"
She noticed the pause a bit and sat up and look him in his dark eyes. "Yes?" she said, forcing her voice to be calm as she spoke.
He took a deep breathe and looked away, taking her once more into his arms and just holding her. "Remember that day.. in the schoolyard?"
She looked taken aback for a moment, but found comfort in his arms "Yes," she said softly, the memory flooding back to her....
Her eyes slid over to his form, watching as the eight-year-old menace worked his way up over the jungle gym. He was every girls dream, from his dark blonde hair to his capivating dark blue eyes that stole the sunlight from the world. 811 was truly an attractive young man.
She tugged at her whitish blonde locks with a sigh as she glanced around at the other young girls that were oogling him and the young boys that were following him and watching him.
A scream leapt from many of the girls on the sideline, and many jumped up and ran over to the jungle gym. "Oh!! 811!!" they all screamed as the rest of the girls ran inside for a teacher.
Kuri's head snapped over to Dapon's crumbled form lying on the ground beneath the jungle gym, his face flushed and red. Without even thinking, she stood and raced over to his side, pushing her way through the growing crowd and knelt down at his side.
He was face-down on the ground, panting, a single hand over his chest, his eyes closed in pain. He wasn't moving that was for certain, one of his legs twisted at a wierd angle.
She put her hand on his back and looked at his form, carefully taking his shoulders and turning him over, resting his head on her lap as she surveyed the damage.
"I said something then," Kuri said, looking at him. "You gave me a severely odd look."
"You called me by my proper name," he said with a slight chuckle.
"Dapon" she whispered.
His grew less contorted, as he stared at her in shock, wanting to question why he called him that.
Later that day....He was taken to the infirmary and she sent to detention for being beside the wounded. They all believed that she had pushed him from the jungle gym.
She was alone, however. The teacher had stepped out in the hall, and she was finished with what she was required to do, so she watched the other kids outside, playing and talking no doubt about the events earlier in the day.
The door creeped open and she snapped her head to the front of the class. The person started laughing and she spun to look at it. "811!" she said surprised to see him.
He limped over and collapsed into the desk beside her, looking out at the kids playing outside. "I never caught your number," he said softly, never once looking at her.
She turned red, and returned her gaze outside once more as well. "729," she replied slowly, her voice trembling slightly.
He laughed and looekd at her with a grin. "729, eh?" They sat in silence for a few minutes until the door slammed open and in walked the teacher.
She laughed softly and sighed in rememberance. "Yes, Dapon. I remember that. We certainly got yelled at that day didnt we?" She laughed again and returned to cuddling under his chin, relishing in his arms around her. "Now what did that have to do about anything Dapon?"
He bit his lip, trying to work up the courage to make his confession.
"Dapon," she said softly, listening to his heartbeat quicken in his silence. "What is it?"
He took a deep breathe and blurted it out. "Ever since that day, Kuri," he said softly, glad he was holding her so she couldnt see his face. "I knew that... there was something about you.... that I just... I..."
She laughed and pulled back from him, twisting around and looking into his eyes. "You what?"
He sighed and dropped his gaze a moment, slipping his arms around her back, gently stroking the fabrics that covered her form. Without a second thought, he leaned foreward and kissed her deeply.
Kuri blinked and was startled, thinking that it was a dream. but his hands on her waist and back were real, as were his lips against hers needily. She closed her eyes and surprised herself by letting herself melt against him, her arms slipping behind him and pulling herself closer.
Dapon pulled back for a moment and looked at her for a moment, studying her closed eyes as they opened and sgazed longingly into his own. "I fell in love that day, Kuri, and I still love her to this day."
Kuri smiled and kissed his cheek lightly, snuggling against him again, her arms around his waist, his around hers once more. "To be completely honest Dapon, I fell in love that day too."
He breathed a slight sigh of relief and just held her close, working up the courage to ask her one more thing, but not knowing at all how to.
Meanwhile, Amal was getting restless, it had been almost an hour since the two had vanished from view, and he was starting to get worried about his almost-adopted-sister. He had never truly trusted Dapon from the moment he had met him, even though she seemed to like him. Dapon, to him, just came off as the type of man that enjoyed picking on people and beating up on other people simply because he could. He knew Dapon had studied practically every style of fighting and was beginning to fret.
"Highness," his said, his voice concerned. "I think we should go look for them. Make sure they are alright."
Milan looked at him with a soft smile on her lips. "No, Amal, we shall not. Come with me and let us get some tea together."
"But--"
Kuri loved being held by him. She finally felt safe, whereas not long before she felt so vunerable, watching others around her. She just leaned against him listening to his heartbeat for her to hear.
"Kuri," he said softly, jerking her out of her trance. "There's uh,... one more thing I want to ask you.." he trailed off, but captivated her attention.
"Yes, Dapon?" she said softly, just glad to hear his voice say her name.
He took a deeper breathe and leaned back, holding her closer to him as she spoke. "Kuri... I... I want to be with you forever..."
Kuri jumped, startled by what he said. "What?" she said surprised, not sure if she heard him right.
He sat up, sliding her off his chest, letting her sit beside him. He looked deep into her eyes, putting his hand against her cheek he smiled. "I want to be with you forever Kuri." Without another word, he pulled into a tender kiss once more, half of him dreading what she might say...
