More summer fun With the summer event in the horizon, testing had started with the SCAS group members. Meanwhile we would like to put more attention to NPC's and storyline, so that's why we're holding the NPC voting page right now. Something that we wanted to do since a long time ago was to allow everyone to add NPC's as friends, and get special events from NPC's throughout the year. This is a first step that will lead to more features to come. Majority of our effort currently is to prepare for the server migration happening in September. Many systems to upgrade, and lots of debugging once the systems are upgraded. Found a lot of old code that need to be changed for the new PHP version, and lots of optimization where done while we're at it. Codemonkey will be starting work on Towns 3 very soon. Although it'll be a challenge to figure out how Towns should work on mobile, it'll be a lot of fun to be able to use Towns on the phone.

Oof. From the little I know from my singular coding class, that's a crapload of backend work, my dude. A message to all Gaia programmers/devs: Rock on, y'all! I know we demand a lot, and I know you folks are still catching up from years of like, mass server/coding neglect.

As far as the rest goes, keep it up! I know it's tough keeping up with a site like Gaia, Lanzer. As far as overhauls, I know it's probably gonna be another year or two before we're back in tiptop shape. That's okay. I'll be here. ^_^

I am obsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog. Expect fandweebness from me.

I have to wonder how many people even still used towns 1 or 2. And how many would try to use it on a tiny screen on their phone? As inventory for mobile was a bust, not sure that all the work to make things mobile centered is worth it... You should poll the users to see who would use mobile towns at least once a week. I think the number might be surprisingly low. confused

But I'm looking forward to the new mobile games, and hope the LK themed one will spark more updates for Lake Kindred.

I don't personally use cell phones, so it's irrelevant to me, but towns sounds like something that could potentially be a big drain on data and battery power. I would hope codemonkey would consider that factor when creating a version of towns intended for for cell phones, not making them so bad on battery power draining and how much data they'd use that nobody would actually want to use them in a situation where they wouldn't already be able to just use them on a laptop instead anyway.

Thank you for asking for Gaians' input about our beloved NPCs. heart I wish I had had 30 votes so I could've posted a Like for all the ones I want to see more of in future events, mini-events, plot updates, manga updates, and 4-koma. Also, it was too bad that some NPCs were duplicated while others did not make the list at all. All in all, though, I think this initial survey provides a nice start on collecting information about which groups Gaians want to see more of (although I suspect the takeaway willl be ALL, lol!).

I want to give you a special thank-you for working on the Runway code recently, fixing the prizes-not-granting bug and working on the First of the Month glitch set. I can hardly wait to try out the fix as July turns into August to see how well it will go. whee

You and codemonkey are heroes for tackling the html5 conversion and mobile-friendliness simultaneously! Good luck with all your work preparing Gaia to become a powerhouse for the new millenium. mrgreen

Curious if you actually read/get notified on these, but have you thought about contracting out for some of this stuff?

I know Gaia has always been big on in-house but I even among some of your older user base let alone the PHP work-community alone, quite a few still lurking directly experienced in doing migrations of this sort and doing them on a telecommute contractual basis.

At the very least you'd probably find hiring experienced contractors from other parts of the states notably cheaper than requirement for in-house.
