I used to hate cooking.
Never liked touching raw meat when I was wee, as the cold wet clammy feel always put me off. Plus, blood made me queasy. I wouldn't even clean the sink after mum cooked, because to clean it would mean to have to touch all that raw gunk in the sink.
When I was 18 and lived with just me dad for a while, and I decided to try cooking for him like a good daughter. Turns out, I'm not very good. I remember a time when I proudly laid down a few stir fried dishes in front of him and an attempt at rice. Dad sat there for a while, then turned to me and asked, "Hey I know, let's go downstairs to the food court for dinner!"
The days that followed were rubbery pork chops, salty stir fries
Then, University happened. The blood that bleeds out whenever I do a subgingival root scale (thats basically a clean of your teeth really deep below the gums) stains my gloves and equipment crimson, and I've done it so many times I'm now desensitized. Taking teeth isn't scary anymore, surgery seems doable, and injections are like second nature.
No one likes a squeamish dentist.
Now I make a decent tonkatsu from scratch, make a sinful chicken curry and boy, do I make a good roast duck.
Yea, I think I've come a long way. smile
#Tip no 1: P.S: Your gums bleed? That's gum disease. You gotta floss them properly, and when you floss, it WILL bleed more. But that's fine! Because it bleeds when you floss it just means you gotta keep flossing the area every night until it stops bleeding... and just keep at it so it doesn't get inflamed again.
