So I just saw the new one bout the hacking program in the MMORPG game (insert name here) Don't remeber what it was called....but anyways....Ducky brought said the COD was ummm something, but he was tortured for days. And had miracously grown 5 inches in that time. Ducky's theory was he was 'racked' or put on a Rach to be stretched out. Good chance seeing how he was tortured for information not as punishment. Otherwise he might have suffered the first version of the Rack, the Wheel.
Differences? Well.....
Wheel: Causes great ammounts of sharp pain as it stretches. Stretches very fast if the torturer wishes, snapping bones and connective tissue. Quite painfull untill death. Normally the body wouldn't appear stretched out, it would shrink back into a pile of broken goo, or the skin would snap as well causing the body to become just a regular pile of goo. Spinning the Wheel caused the gears in the back to turn pushing the rim of the Wheel outwards, like twisting a cap makes it turn upwards. Body ligaments were tied to the notched or hooks along the rim. Wasn't uncommon for the Wheel to fail as wrists, ankles, arms, or legs were ripped off keeping the victim from being stretched to death. Though in those days, they probably bled to death within minutes anyways.
Rack: An adapted version of the Wheel in tapletop format. Invented for pain rather than death. Causes a constant achey pain instead of unbearable sharp stabbing pain, as you connective tissue is pulled out. Sometimes if the torturer was lax, the victim would become num to the pain untill something snapped from the tense position. Death by the Rack would normally take a day or two depending on the torturer. The Rack modifications made it easier to perform other tortures simutaniously, so became prefered over the Wheel.
As bad and painfull as this machine was, still is, it also made good. Some doctor or other came upon the Rack while on a travel and made a small box version of it to treat dislocated shoulders and such. Same with many poisons. Odd isn't how the eviliest things are also the nicest? and how the nicest things are also the evilest? Belladonna, many forms of torture, the garrote, poinsettias, many trees. Amazing how medicines or cures and torture or killing devices are so often the same thing.....
