**NOTE this is written stictly from a woman's perspective. I would like it to be known that women can also be faulted for objecticizing men and it is no less wrong than when men do it to women.**
-- lately i've had to change the time of day in which i run because i have VBS in the mornings-this meaning that since i am usually busy in the evening, i have to run between 3&5 - one of the most trafficed times of the afternoon.--
Nearly every day now, men have been shouting at me through car windows. I'd rather not repeat the things they say, you can leave your imagination to that.
I know that i sound like a sensitive child when i say this, but hearing these things makes me want to cry...
and not only because of the embarassment... i realize that though i personally see these outbursts as hurtful and belittling, others view them as some sort of "compliment"
..but because of what this world has become... or perhaps, what it has always been. We live in a place where women are made to believe that they should aim to be an object of desire. Emphasis on the 'object'. Where men use not just words, but actions as well to publicly regard women as a piece of meat, and no one gives them a second glance. Not only that, but they belive the woman should be flattered by such degradation.
What has happened to the honor? The integrity? The dignity of a human beigng- male or female? Are they all just a part of some far-fetched tale we tell ourselves so that we can believe that disgrace is a new development?... that it's ok, because we USED to be good, and so we could always go back to that if we wanted to?
I really hope the right people read this somehow... that somebody, somewhere will understand what i'm trying to say here..
Women: You are a beautiful creation of the Lord. Please, for your own sake, stand up against our culture, and claim the dignity, the honor, and the respect that is rightfully yours. Wether you recognize your power over them or not, men are despereately in need of righteous women that will hold them to the right standards.
Men: You also are a wonderful creation of our God. I have faith that there is a peice in each of you, no matter how small, that sees these injustices for what they are, and is disturbed by them. Please, for your own sake, and for the sake of your mothers, sisters, and daughters, see us not as a body, but as a person. A human being with thoughts, and feelings, and honor -which we are counting on you to protect.
