I crawled back into my tent and slid my dress off, slipping it onto a rung I hung in the back of the tent. I pulled on a loose shirt and some shorts and stepped out of the tent, staring at the now dwindled fire. My eyes drifted to the sky, it was dusk and the breeze was pleasing, sending various smells wafting up to me nose. Pine. Cedar. Smoke. Deer. Bear. I sniffed, puzzled... Blood? I stood up and walked uneasily in the direction I smelt the blood and then broke into a run. I stumbled into a thicket and it caught at my legs, tearing my skin. I winced but kept on going, bursting into Aleyn's meadow, finding him slumped over an enormous wolf, feeding deeply. I gagged silently and looked down quickly at my legs, healing quickly. He looked up at me slowly, with sharp eyes. "Something wrong?"
I shook my head, "Sorry, I- I just smelt blood and got worried.." I stepped closer and my eyes widened, "Is that a were?"
He looked up at me, "No. But it really looks like one doesn't it?"
I nodded and covered my neck with both hands, rubbing, "You wouldn't honestly... feed from a were would you?"
He shrugged, "If I was desperate enough. Most vamps wouldn't bother, it's 'beneath' them."
I shook my head, "One prejudice I don't mind. Imagine having a vampire gnaw at you... gross."
Aleyn gave me a side glance, with a smirk, "Oh I bet Jasper's bitten at you before."
I flushed and hit him, "None of your business perverted man!"
His face fell, "No.. seriously, hasn't he tried to drain you before?"
I was taken aback and my voice was small, "Drain me?"
He nodded, his face a little confused, "He's never lost control with you?"
I shook my head slowly, "No.. and neither has Jade.. and she's lived with me when I had open wounds seeping blood, and I was unconscious."
His eyes grew wide, "They have some serious self-control then. I know I've made mistakes once or twice."
I gulped, "Mistakes?"
He nodded and then stammered quickly, "But that was a long long time ago Sakir... I would never." He moved closer and I tried not to flinch, his voice was smaller, "You smell like venom.. what's that about?"
I shrunk into my clothes and shook my head, "Nothing... nothing... I'm gonna go ok Aleyn?" I turned and began to take off but Aleyn's quick draw of breath kept me in place long enough to hear him say, "Be careful."
-----
I was back at the campsite and looked up at the moon, it was almost directly overhead... I had spent longer than I had thought at Aleyn's and at first sprinting, and then dawdling back. My feet dragged in the ashes of the fire and I felt myself compelled to dance through them, from a spirit that was not mine. I moved fluidly and eerily through motions I had never learned, but were simply innate. The forest around me became a sheet of evergreen, gently rippling. Cecily was now in my thoughts, I felt her slightly sharp prodding on my brain
Sakir... you've been blocking me out lately. But I did see that little stunt you pulled. You push him too far.
I didn't even know about it. He could've just told me.
He could barely breath let alone think. You have to release that temptation is ever present for him, it doesnt just disappear because its you.
I shook her in my brain, Don't you think I know that?! I just got a little competitive and carried away.
Her voice was much like Aleyn's... Be careful.
She was gone and I was left thinking about what on earth everyone was going on about. I knew what I did wrong, nothing happened, Jasper was fine, and now I was going to his campsite for whatever reason he pleased.
I stood up and made my way through the brush to his clearing, which was set in the middle of knee high shrubs in a meadow. I stepped onto the hot sand that was his campsite and looked around, Was he even there?
I heard something crack behind me and I looked over my shoulder...
