Mirror: Chapters 2 through 5
Chapter 2
We already said our ‘good-nights’ a few hours ago, and I went to bed just as planned. Teh. Or so you think. I stayed up and set my alarm to twelve ‘o clock. *BEEP*
The alarm jolted me from me staring at the ceiling. I tiptoed down the normally beige hall now dark and creepy, the shadows dancing playfully on the walls. My father’s office door was slightly ajar and I shone my flashlight into it; cautiously, of course. I pushed open the door and looked around. My dad’s office looked worse than my room I stealthily stepped around random objects like papers, calculators, piles of sticky notes and rubber duckies. “Ah, there it is,” I whispered to myself. In the corner lay a medium sized box with the words confidential written all over. Slowly I peeled off the tape, and opened the flaps. A second box was in it. CONFIDENTIAL DO NOT OPEN. “What do you think you’re doing?” Demanded a voice by the door. I craned my head around. “Same thing you are Rixia,” I whispered smiling. “But seriously don’t scare me like that.” Rixia said, “Sure.” In a faraway voice. And preceded to sit by me. “Well, are you going to open it?” She asked. I nodded and gently lifted out the second box , tearing off the tape. CONFIDENTIAL, REMEMBER, DO NOT OPEN. Rixia looked at me. “Weird.” I tore open the next layer. DID YOU READ ME? I’M CONFIDENTIAL “Ooh. You got served” My sister told me. “What ever,” I replied. I looked up, then I looked up again. “Rixia, what’s up with that rose?” “Oh– this? My secret admirer gave it to me...” She sighed.
“Isn’t it romantic?” “Um...no.” I stated quite flatly. I was gagging on the inside. She snatched the box from me probably trying to annoy me. “Rixia ” I complained. She ignored me and gazed at the contents in the box. Dusty and a little damp lay a crystal heart, the size of her fist, glowing a soft red. Next to it was an old an ancient looking bronze mirror with a single crack in it’s polished surface. The last item was a stone puzzle with markings much like runes on each piece. The puzzle looked as if it could be built into many different combinations. I reached for the mirror as if it was calling me from the back of my mind. Rixia reached for the heart, the color very tantalizing. When we both got our hands on these strange things, a faint electric tingled our very nerves. Boy, did my dad come across something good this time. We glanced at each other, then peered back into the box. “Puzzle ” We said simultaneously. “Why don’t we take this to my room?” Rixia suggested. I nodded and picked up the box, and carried it to Rixia’s white and violet room. The reason for all of this purple, is that Rixia is obsessed in this anime show called Ryukae, where the main character wear’s royal colors, because he’s a “pretty boy” prince, and, and....and we got distracted. “Ok, this goes here...And that goes there...” Rixia was muttering, she had already started. After working out the standard puzzle problems, we finally got to the last piece. And as it stuck in all of the items hummed with some magical force. “Ok, why is the puzzle doing–“ I never got the chance to finish my sentence because the mirror erupted with light, illuminating the room harshly. Rixia clenched the heart to her chest, and I desperately tried to reach the mirror that I set down the dresser when I walked in. But it was like gravity wasn’t on my side. A serge of pain rippled through out my body, starting from my head, down to my toes. A shout from my sister pierced my ears. The next thing we knew was that the mirror stopped shining, the objects had disappeared, and so had we...
