This competition you may already be familiar with as they held the first one last year in New York. I also watched the Chinese Spectacular this year, and 'Wow!', I sure hope I have the chance to go see it again next year! The Divine Performing Arts are amazing to watch. Lots of Chinese classical dancing going on in some of the pieces, and a bit of martial arts movements that some of the male dancers performed. It was just really good, and if you are into the fine performing arts I guess you have to go see it for yourself to know what I'm talking about. NEW YORK—World-class dancers will showcase their talents in Chinese dance during the second annual International Chinese Classical Dance Competition. The contest, hosted by New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV), spans three days and begins Friday, August 22.
It’s no small affair—simply by participating in the competition, contestants will be put on the world stage via NTDTV’s global television network and Web broadcast of the competition.
All will perform before judges at the preliminaries on Friday, but by the final round on Sunday, only the best from each of the four divisions will remain.
The three-day contest culminates in the awards ceremony on Sunday to bestow one gold, one silver, two bronze, and three honorable mention awards to the winners from the men’s and women’s youth division (ages 14-17) and adult division (ages 18-40). Gold, silver, and bronze winners will claim $10,000, $3,000, and $1,000 respectively.
The competition consists of three rounds: the preliminaries, semifinals, and finals, all of which will be held at the Town Hall Foundation on W. 43 St. in Manhattan.
Contestants must demonstrate their skills by either performing a recommended piece or their own dance routine. They must also perform a one-minute routine containing a required set of fundamental techniques such as leaps, turns, flips, and tumbling.
Hailing from all corners of the world, in the July preliminary contest alone, approximately 40 contestants came from as far as Taiwan.
A panel of judges will consist of experts from the Chinese Spectacular as well as dance instructors and choreographers from each of the three troupes in the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) dance group.
DPA will perform one show on Sunday before the awards ceremony at Manhattan Center, Hammerstein Ballroom.
Since December 2007, DPA toured 66 cities for 151 days, holding a total of 215 shows, and attracting a live audience of 600,000. Tickets for the New York performance and other NTDTV Chinese culture contests are available for purchase at ticket.ntdtv.com and 1-877-683-7469.
