Stolen
Axel vs. his Heartless, Leza
Leza was a sadistic b*****d, and Axel knew this. He was all things that Axel hated about himself. Lust, envy, sadism, hatred. Leza. The Heartless himself was something to look at. His hair was blood red, hanging long and loose around his shoulders. It was black with red streaking. His eyes were deep green speckled with red, and the tear-markings were longer, going all the way down his cheeks, like long slash marks.
Axel summoned his chakrams and glared at his Heartless. It was time for their battle. Astrix had had hers with Zirtsa, and Roxas with Anti-Sora, and most of the others with theirs. Zirtsa and Leza were two of the last. Once Astrix reclaimed her heart, her body was taken to her home world of Hanuha. Far away from Neverwas. Far away from Axel . . .
Leza smiled at Axel, across the bog-like shallow pound. They had actually stumbled upon a flood ground. Dead trees and damp grassless patches, like little islands, scattered the fog blanketed water. Leza wielded chakrams too, only his were black and had a thorny look about them. His came in a flash of black fire and acrid smoke.
“Nice to see you finally join us, Axel,” Leza said, his voice a mocking reproduction of Axel’s own voice. “Only, I’m all the way over here, and you’re all the way over there.” Leza pointed at the ground where he stood and then at Axel.
Axel set his jaw and ventured into the thigh high water, trudging along slowly. Leza stood and waited. The imbicle was doing exactly as he wanted, Leza thought. Come to me, give me the advantage, have me call the shots. Perfect.
“What do you think Astrix is thinking right now? Oh, sorry, EveningStar. Astrix is gone.” Leza asked, smirking. Axel scowled, advancing farther. Leza knew the fact that Astrix had left without saying goodbye was a thorn in Axel’s side.
“Probably gone to the same place as Zirtsa, eh, Leza?” Axel countered. Now it was Leza’s turn to scowl. “I heard Astrix almost cut Zirtsa’s head clean off with Frostbite before opening her chest and taking back the other half of her heart.”
“You shut up!” Leza barked. “You don’t get to talk about my Zirtsa! Once I’m finished with you, I’ll find EveningStar and I’ll send her back into the darkness. Only this time, her Nobody won’t be in existence long enough to get an X added to her name!”
Axel smirked.
“It’ll never happen, Leza. I intend on ending this. Now.” Axel said. Leza smirked right back.
“Heh. Cool.” He said. Then Leza leapt and struck forward with his right arm, Axel jerking back, Leza striking out with his left, Axel jerking right to avoid the blow. Leza landed on his feet and raised one leg up to kicked Axel in the chest. Axel was sent sprawling into the mud and water. A long gash on his chest from where Leza’s chakram had hit him left a crimson stain in the water. Axel got to his feet and spun to Leza.
He was gone.
A darkness swirled behind Axel and Leza rose from it, eyes glinting. He grabbed Axel’s forhead from behind and tipped his head back, intending to drag his chakram thorns across his throat. Axel elbowed him and he lost his grip. Axel turned, chakrams flying out. Leza threw up a hasty black fire shield.
Axel’s chakrams returned and it turned into a fire-fight. For every blast Axel threw at Leza, Leza was able to rebound and send one at Axel. At one point, Axel slipped and lost his footing as Leza threw his chakrams forward, the disks flying at Axel. The Nobody launched his as well and the two pairs collided in air, blasting each other to bits and sparks.
Now was time for closer combat. Leza strode for Axel and Axel for Leza.
Leza punched Axel with a hard left, but Axel caught his right hand and hit Leza with his own left. The Heartless stumbled and Axel added to the momentum with a firm shove backwards, but Leza grabbed a fistful of Axel’s tunic before bringing the two of them splashing into the pond.
For a long time, the water was eerily still. Then Axel burst from the surface, gasping for air. This part was deeper, a sudden drop off. He scrambled for higher ground, but Leza emerged behind him, grabbing his hair and forcing his head under. Axel struggled and raked his nails across Leza’s hands and face.
He managed to throw Leza off and felt his boots scrape the ground beneath him. Closer to higher ground. He ran, getting to about ankle height before getting tackled from behind. Leza straddled his waist, forcing his face into the loose sand at the bottom of the pond. Axel’s nose and mouth were filled with it. He drove his elbow up and cracked it against Leza’s noise.
Rolling, Axel managed to straddle Leza’s waist and punched with both hands, one after the other, while Leza tried to bring his arms up to block the blows. Finally, Lexa stopped moving and just laid still, eyes closed. His hair drifted slighting with the moving of the water, crimson ribbons forming around his face and ears. Axel was breathing heavily, trying to catch his breath as he got off of the Heartless. His skin, which was normally a dull, dead grey, was starting to become a healthier pink. He was coming alive, dying as a Heartless, but being born as a human. A Heartless’s worst nightmare.
Axel trudged back to his bag, trying to find the special dagger A.K.Narx had fashioned for each of them to cut their hearts out with. He turned back to where Leza was and froze.
Gone again.
He felt the breath on his neck this time and spun, plunging his dagger into the nearest thing. Leza froze, midmovement, a silver dagger hilt protruding from his sternum. His eyes were wide as he staggered backwards, a hand flying to cover the wound. Black blood oozed from around the blade, spurting almost. He grabbed it by the hilt and pulled it out, tears flowing despite himself. He brandished it at Axel, one hand still over his wound.
“I’ll sh-show you,” he muttered, sounding broken and scared. He tried to run for Axel, but his knees gave way half way there, and Axel had to rush to catch him before he hit the ground. Laying face up in Axel’s arms as the Nobody sat on his knees, Leza’s hand holding the dagger went limp and it fell to the sand. Axel picked it up with the hand not supporting Leza’s shoulders.
Leza was shaking violently, convulsing, the black liquid oozing from the corner of his mout now. His eyes rolled up to meet Axel’s.
“It h-hurt the f-f-first time . . . W-will it hurt n-now?” He managed, wheezing. Axel shook his head.
“No. No you won’t feel a thing,” he said, softly, examining the blade. Leza’s eyes closed.
“I muh-miss Mom,” Leza said. Axel nodded.
“I do too. We’ll see her again. Just wait.” And with that, Axel plunged the blade into his chest. The pair slowly evaporated into red and blue sparkles in the air, swirling upwards and away from the shadowy bog in the Neverwas.
He woke up in his bed, not long after. Midgar was still Midgar outside his window. Nothing had changed there. The house was empty and he got dressed, leaving the house and venturing down to a place, an address that rang out in his mind that seemed to swim in a sea of blank memories. A memorial statue, erected by Rufus Shinra and Shinra Corp.
Standing, leaning against it, or sitting beside it, amongst the throng of people in the square that day, he saw one that stood out. Long black hair, braided down her back . . . it was short when she left . . .
. . . Amond shaped lavender eyes . . .
they had been so deep a purple before . . .
She seemed to sense him watching and looked up, eyes meeting his emerald green.
Astrix
Zirtsa
He walked up to her and stood in front of her, the girl rising from where she sat on the edge. Neither broke eye-contact.
“Lae?” She asked. Her voice . . . Her voice was exactly the same. He remembered her. Remembered her for who she truely was.
“EveningStar.”
Though to the rest of the world, it was two people meeting for the first time, to each other, it was four distinct souls coming together.
