“Is that Earth?” I asked quietly. Cian looked at me funny for a second then replied,
“Yeah, but we usually call it the blue moon. Why do you ask?”
It was my turn to look at him funny. “I thought we were on Earth...”
“So you’re from...” he trailed off and pointed to the blue moon...er...Earth. I nodded and his eyes widened. “How is that possible?”
I shrugged, trying to think of a good cover story besides: I fainted after I saw a vampire kill a lycan and woke up in my trunk which was parked in a vampire lair and they asked me to spy on the lycans and neglected to tell me that they had transported me off my own friggin’ world.
“My friend had told me it was a surprise so she had someone pick me up when it was time to go, blindfolded me because it was supposed to be a surprise and dropped me off at the club, telling me that she would be there by the time I arrived.” I sucked in a huge breath of air. I hated long sentences.
He stared at me for a while before his hands clenched into fists at his sides. “When I find your friend I will give her a good throttling, I don’t care if she is a girl.”
That statement made a wave of guilt wash over me. He was getting so worked up over nothing and he didn’t know it. Cian turned to me and took my hand, leading me over to a tree at the beginning of the forest.
He sat at the base of it, with his legs open, then pulled me down to sit in between his legs. I blushed furiously as he wrapped his arms around me. I was so not used to this. He is the alpha male of his “pack” which, from what I had gathered, included all of the lycans. He was royalty and he was with me.
I relaxed in Cian’s arms and enjoyed the sunset. Just his presence made me forget that I was millions of miles away from home. So far away from all that was familiar to me. But I didn’t mind at all.
He leaned his chin on my shoulder and whispered,
“Are you okay?”
I looked at him as best I could, considering where his head was and looked at him confused.
“What do you mean?” His head turned a little to see my face and I saw his brows furrow together with confusion. It made him look so sexy.
“I mean, you’re millions of miles away from anything familiar.” His breath hit my neck and made me shiver. Cian tightened his grip around me and a ghost of a smile played on his lips.
“Oh, that.”
“‘Oh, that’? That’s all? You’re not freaking out right now? Do you have a fever?”
I laughed as he felt my forehead with the back of his hand.
“I guess I’m okay with it. I didn’t have anything going for me there so...I don’t know. I actually feel more comfortable here than back there.” And that was the truth. Here I felt like I had something that I didn’t back home. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I couldn’t deny it being there either.
“Hmm...” We both looked back at the “blue moon” rising.
It wasn’t until I felt something tickle my neck that I realized I had fallen asleep. Slowly, I opened my eyes and looked at Cian. His head was still resting on my shoulder, but his eyes were closed. He had fallen asleep too. It was his steady breath on my neck that tickled.
I writhed a little in his arms as a particular breath caressed my neck. He shifted slightly and sighed. I bit the inside of my cheek to stop from laughing out loud. He adjusted his arms around my waist and squeezed slightly.
Can we say “awwwwww......”?
I couldn’t bring myself to wake him. He seemed so peaceful. And I was so comfortable. But alas, his eyelids tightened as he gave a yawn and that was it for me.
“Hmmm...” it came out as a weak laugh type thing. You know when you don’t want to laugh but that shaky sound comes out against your will. That.
His eyes slowly opened and looked straight ahead, then turned to me. In the starlight his eyes looked silver more than anything. Cian smiled a half-grin and arched his back in an attempt to stretch it without removing his arms from my waist.
“So...”
“So.” I repeated.
He turned his head and let his cheek lay on my shoulder. Cian moved his lips to my neck where he began to softly kiss it. They were warm kisses, so each time he pulled back to kiss another part of my neck the cold air would rush to cool the spot his lips just left. My body shuddered from it.
“Why do you always shiver when I’m by your neck?” he asked. I could hear the amused tone in his voice and thought of the lazy half-grin he had given me earlier grace his features. Then I said something completely against my character.
“Because that’s what you do to me.” I quickly slapped my hand to my mouth and looked away from Cian. I felt his head lift from my shoulder and he moved to my other side so that he could see my face. I turned again. He went to my other side. It went on like that until he turned my face to him with his hand.
“Say that again...” he said a little breathless.
“becasthasatoudotme.” I said quickly, not meeting his eyes. He laughed.
“Please?” I took a quick glance at his face. Big mistake. His face had a gentle curiosity to it with a small knowing smile. His eyes were filled with affection. I melted.
“Because that’s what you do to–” I couldn’t even finish before his lips crashed against mine. His want, desire and passion were all in that kiss. I had felt it before. I knew I had. I kissed back with as much force as he gave me. I felt his tongue slide across my bottom lip and I let him in without hesitation. As I had predicted, it had felt like we hadn’t done this in a while, but we still had done this. It made us want to replenish our memories as fast as we could, memorizing each others mouths.
Slowly, we broke apart at the same time and stared at each other.
“Why does that...?” Cian asked.
“I don’t know.” I answered, knowing what the question had been.
