He walked me around the entire club, leaning down every now and then to point out someone who was ruthless and who was entirely harmless. We soon sat back at the bar where Ethan was talking up another girl.
Guy knows how to bounce back...
I glanced at Cian who was shaking his head slightly as the bartender placed a drink in front of him.
“He just doesn’t know when to quit...” he whispered. I chuckled a little and he smiled at me. “You’re not pissed that he got over you so fast?”
I shrugged, “I’m used to it...” He stared at me for a few more minutes before,
“How?”
I looked up in surprise. No one had ever asked how, it just seemed like I always got passed over for another girl. In fact, it happened so much that it didn’t bother me anymore. I expected it to happen. Hey, I’m not a supermodel people...
When I didn’t answer he must have figured out the answer because he put down his drink and slid his arm around my waist. That made me jump about a foot and knocked over my stool sending me into Cian’s chest. Chuckling slightly, Cian tightened his grip around my waist and walked me to the dance floor.
All of the people moved out of our way as if they were afraid to get burned if we bumped into them.
Great, I have the dangerous one, I thought dryly.
Yeah...I forgot to tell you...Cian is kinda their leader...
Pause.
WHAT?!!?!
Don’t screw up...
Oh, just wait until I see you again...
I knew you couldn’t resist me...
Shut up...
You didn’t deny it...
I pulled away from the connection before I made my annoyance apparent on my face. But now my attention was on how close Cian was holding me to himself. Damn. My. Redness.
Cian let out a laugh and I relaxed a little. For some odd reason I felt some normalcy return to my life. Minus the fact that I was on a mission for vampires to get information on the werewolves’ plans for the war between them and now I was dancing very closely to the leader of the clan. Yeah, just a little bit of normalcy. It probably had to do with the laugh he let out. It just reminded me that right now he was carefree like I should have been.
What the hell? I was still young. And I wasn’t going anywhere for a while so...I should just let loose. A little.
The night ended all too soon when Cian led me out of the warehouse. I was still smiling. Hey, one you get to know them werewolves weren’t so bad. They weren’t as mean as vampires so of course I had favored them some more than the vamps that wanted to eat me...
I shivered and Cian put an arm around my shoulder and pulled me to his side. “Cold?” he smiled.
“Just a little” I flirted back. I wasn’t even trying to flirt anymore. I was on autopilot. Happens when a hot guy hits on me without me expecting it. Happens to us all, right ladies?
I was just nervous about how I was going to get Cian to let me stay with him in the main lair–
“Do you have anywhere to stay in town?” Problem solved. My luck was good tonight...
I made myself look as timid as possible when I responded, I was already blushing...
“No. The friend who was supposed to meet me here was going to let me stay at their new place...” He looked straight ahead as he listened, I could tell that he was angry at the fake friend who had ditched me. Aw, it made me all warm and fuzzy inside...
“We have extra rooms at the lair if you would like to stay.” I looked up. This was too easy. I finally realized it. What was this guy planning? What was his game?
I hesitated again. The feeling this guy gave me made me feel safe, or maybe he planned that, or maybe I’m thinking too much into this.
“Are you okay?” I looked up and noticed that we had stopped walking. He was staring at me with concern on his face.
“I– I’m just not– Guys don’t usually– ” He nodded his head.
“I understand, but you don’t need to worry. I don’t want to hurt you. The others seem more comfortable around you than any other human that has ever entered the club. I just thought that you would like to stay with us since you seem comfortable with us already.”
It was my turn to nod. Then he walked back to me, grabbed one of my hands and held it in both of his. They engulfed my tiny hand and they were a lot warmer than Nate’s were.
“I give you my word that no harm will come to you while you stay with us. You already give us some comfort that not all humans think of us as monsters. No one will hurt you because of that. People like you are rare, even in this time.”
I stood stock-still. What could I say to that? The guy practically got on his knees and swore his life that no harm would come to me. And the way he said it just made me feel safe. What is up with these supernatural guys? They just want everything to happen at one time.
One night ago I was just driving home from a college, then I hit a vampire, get kidnapped, sent on a mission to get with a werewolf, then this guy is asking me to stay with him...and I am O.K. with that. And that didn’t disturb me. Wow.
I’m gonna have to figure out why...
