Ok I've got this all figured out.
Me and Natalie had a big discussion about this. Apparently I didn't know the difference between a Hippie and a Beatnick...or rather what a beatnick really was....
This isn't meant to insult anyone. It is just based on GENERAL facts and if you are a hippie or beatnick these may not all apply to you.
Hippies are those people who do drugs (LSD, Cannibus, so on and so on) to get 'closer to the mother earth.' They are also the people who grow hair out and don't bathe for reasons of 'getting closer to mother earth.'
They also believe in peace and free love, which will sometime result in them giving birth to love children in the back of psycadelicaly colored vans with wall to wall shag rugs...
They believe that peaceful protest is best when they decide to 'stick it to the man.'
Hippies also use other ways to deminstrate peacemaking and getting in touch with nature by burning incense, planting trees, listening to influential music and so on.
Now, that was hippies and now this is a beatnick
Beatnicks are somewhat nomads. They hitchhike around the country looking for inspiration for their 'beat poems/music.' They also grow their hair out and do drugs but or different reasons than hippies. Beatnicks usually can't help it. They look scragally and unshaven usually because they don't have the means to clean themselves because they are usually dirt poor. The reason a beatnick might do drugs is because of stress or social acceptance with other beatnicks. Beatnicks are also against the government but they protest it in either violent or non violent means. A violent protest would be shooting down the people that oppose a beatnick and a non violent is by means of lyrics in music or words in poetry.
