The Problem With Everburning
Chapter 4
Immediately after he left, Xigbar and Larxene thought of ways to escape. Larxene believed they were about in the middle of the library and the exit would be slightly hard to get to not just because of the smoke, but because where they were they had a laberynth of bookcases to go through to even get to the exit. They were in the middle of their plans and ideas when they found out that they had no real hope unless they planned on wandering around and stumbling upon an exit.
" It's hopeless." Larxene groaned as she sat down and put her head in her hands.
" Woe no." Demyx sobbed.
" Oh no." Xigbar corrected. " If only we could teleport. And even though we're in a clearing-"
" -The Everburning's to close." Larxene finished.
" WOE!!!" Demyx wailed as he caught on to the object she was refering too.
" Now look what you did." Xigbar growled as he plugged his ears to protect himself from Demyx's sobbing.
" It wasn't me!" Larxene cried defensively.
Suddenly Xigbar noticed something moveing in the shadows behind Larxene. He slowly got up and backed away. Whatever it was, it was coming fast.
" What? " Larxene asked, her eyebrows furrowed in anger.
He wasn't able to answer fast enough, because the thing sprinted, did a dive, and a second later it and Larxene were mashed together, almost like a ball of humans-er-Nobodies.
" DAMNIT AXEL! I SWEAR I'LL-"
" Thank god it's you! Something's chasing me!" Axel cried, for once, happy to see her, but frightened out of his wits.
" I'll be the thing chaseing you in just a second if you don't get off of me right now!" She screamed.
Demyx's wailing ceased as he watched the two struggle to untie themselves from one another. Axel sat up and found he was mounted backwards on a pissed Larxene.
" Hey, this is comfy-"
She grabbed his shoulders and threw him hard to the ground. She took out a hidden and somewhat large pocket knife, no doubt the same one she tortured him with earlier, and said, " You've crossed the line-"
At the exact moment, something in the library made a sound that could only be described as a chilling, blood thirsty, howl. Xigbar became rigid and stiff with fear while Demyx curled up into a ball. Larxene became stiff too, and felt Axel shiver and cringe beneath her. The noise wasn't nearby, but it was loud enough that it traveled easily through the book shelves. When it died down, Axel turned himself face up and hugged Larxene to him like a teddy bear.
" That, was what was chaseing me." He whispered hoarsely.
" Axel!"
Another howl rose up, this time it sounded like it was closer and had caught a wiff of what it was looking for. No doubt it was them.
" Why don't you two be quiet for a second. Ok?" Xigbar whispered angerly.
Demyx started rocking back and forth and Larxene growled unhappiely as Axel held on tighter to her.
" You know you WILL die after this right?"
Axel nodded. " I kinda figured. That thing is faster and smarter than you think."
" Oh trust me, THAT's not what's going to kill you." She smiled.
" Huh?"
" Ok, I've got a plan." Xigbar interrupted. " A very rough plan, and all the details haven't been figured out, but its our only shot."
" We're all going to die." Demyx cried silently.
Xigbar ignored him, " We're going to-Wait..." He took a long good look at Axel again and said, " How'd you get back here? I thought you said you were going to the bathroom?"
" I did, and I went." Axel answered, momenteraily forgeting the beast somewhere in the smoke.
Larxene pushed Axel away from her violently and crawled away. " Ew,ew,ew..." she whispered.
" I didn't piss my pants Larxene." Axel growled. Then, in a more sophisticated way, he said, " I found the bathroom and went on my own."
" Wait. You're saying you FOUND the bathroom? OUTSIDE the library?" Xigbar asked, unbelieving.
" Yeah, why?"
" Why'd you come back? Why didn't you get help?"
" Because we're were looking for the exit. Remember?" Axel replied. " You didn't think I'd let you guys find the exit without me did you?"
There was a long silence. After a while Xigbar said, " So, you found your way OUTSIDE the librabry. You found a bathroom, then you came BACK?"
" Yep!" Axel smiled. " Wait, you're forgetting the part when I went to the bathroom."
Larxene dropped her head in her hands. " Leave it up to Axel to find the exit, then come straight back. What the HELL were you thinking? "
He opened his mouth but she stopped him without even having to look at him, " -Let me guess, nothing. Am I right?"
Xigbar sighed, of course Axel had to come back, safe and sound. He could've at least brought something that would've helped. Like a fan or something.
" Ok, here's the plan," Xigbar said, just before Larxene started strangling him. " We're going to go-" He pointed in what seemed a random direction. "-that way."
" Hm, good. But may I ask how you came to this conclusion?" Axel asked, sounding some-what intelligent.
" If I told you, you wouldn't want to go that way."
" Why?"
There came a howl in the direction that Xigbar was pointing, and immediately Axel's composed composure crumbled away and he clung to Larxene for dear life.
" There's no WAY you can make me go back there again!!" He cried.
" Axel!" Larxene seethed, pushing him off of her. However he just clung to her right boot and stayed shivering on the floor.
" Think about it Axel. If that's the way you and that thing came, the exit has to be there somewhere." Xigbar concluded.
" And what happens if we run into the 'thing'?" Larxene shot back, for once taking Axel's side. " I honestly don't think that thing wants to have tea time with us. "
" Here here!" Axel cheered, then he stopped and said, " Wait, we're going to have tea time?"
" Shut up Axel, or do you want me to change my mind?" Larxene growled, giving him a death glare; which, to a person who is cowering beneath a mean person like Larxene, looks just plain scarey.
Axel shut up, however he did whimper.
" If we run into the thing we can use our power or the darkness. No big deal." Xigbar reasoned.
" IF you haven't noticed; if we can't teleport, we probably can't use our power EITHER." Larxene pointed out. Then she added, " And I'm willing to bet that Demyx would've sprayed his doll house with water by now."
They turned their attention to Demyx, who was in a puddle of his own tears again in front of his beloved toy.
" I see your point. " Xigbar said. He raised his left hand and tried to summon his sniper guns or perhaps levitate himself off the floor. But as Larxene had so accurately pointed out, he could do neither. " Well, we have three strong men and one very frightening-I mean beautiful- young lady. I think we can manage takeing the thing down."
" With our bare hands?" Larxene asked, not convinced. Then after a moment of thought, she said, " Well, if worst comes to worst, we could always have the thing snack on Axel while we make an escape."
" That doesn't sound like a very good idea." Axel said nervously, not sure if Larxene actually meant it. Xigbar wasn't sure if she meant it or not either, but he believed it was a possibility. Axel desperatly added, " I say we leave the thing Demyx. He wouldn't mind. Right Demyx?"
" Woe....."
" See! He's totally fine with it. "
Xigbar sighed. " Ok, if worst comes to worst we'll leave the thing Demyx. Otherwise I say we stay away from the thing as much as possible. But...if we do confront the beast--I say we handle things like a man, and kill it!"
Axel gave Larxene a concerned look, Xigbar was showing his true colors. " I think we should keep an eye on Xigby buddy...he's got a weird look in his eye. " Axel shuddered.
" That's called bloodlust Axel. Butchers, exacutioners, serial killers, assasins, and the like all have it from time to time." Larxene answered, somewhat unconcerned at the moment.
" Oh, that's nice. Which one of those occupations would he be in this case?"
Larxene didn't answer because Xigbar started leaving. She shook Axel off of her foot and started after him, however she glanced back and noticed that Demyx wasn't following.
" Hey Axel, grab Demyx and lets go. " She said, then turned and left.
" Why me? He's the one that wants to stay here. Maybe we should just leave him here and let the thing eat him. " Axel complained. When no one answered he said, " He's the one that started this mess!"
" Lair." Demyx whimpered.
Axel sighed, and went to Demyx. He nudged him with his foot as an indication that it was time to start moving, but Demyx was unphased. So he started to kick Demyx, but he only sighed gloomily. Axel grabbed Demyx by his organization cloaks hood and started to drag him away, but he found that Demyx was too heavy and he was choking the poor guy.
" You're one sad, straaaaange little man." Axel sighed. Demyx didn't answer.
Axel looked at the doll house for a moment, then got an idea. He reached into the fire and broke off one of the doors of the doll house, it was no surprise he didn't get burnt because his power was fire. However, when Demyx heard the door break off, he bit Axel's arm in rage.
" AHHH!!!! VAMPIRE! GET IT OFF OF MEE!!!! " Axel cried, trying to shake Demyx off. He got up and ran around a little, trying to get rid of the little emo-vampire-orggy member. When that didn't work he ran after Larxene and Xigbar, hoping one of them would be able to get rid of the murderous little beast.
