It's kind of an old Sci-Fi series, but they are called the Mars series by Edgar Rice Burroughs. He was the one who created Tarzan.

Ever since I read Number of the Beast by Heinlein, I wanted to read the Mars series. But the closest I've ever gotten to finding them was buying about 30 Tarzan books at a yard sale.
