Hello all! I am thinking of starting a union for sellers of the angelbow, so that we can all set our angelbow to a set minimum buy price. As part of this union, we would also work together to buy all of the angelbows that are below the agreed minimum price (thus making customers buy at our price)...Only problem right now is that I don't have enough gold to buy all of the angelbows that are below 30k, so I need your help.
Anyone interested, please post, and I will add your name to this post. Anyone against, please also post, and I will add your name as being against. No, I won't verbally abuse you: this is just so that I can have a clear picture of whether people think that this is acceptable/ok.
Intelligent, polite argument and discussion both for and against the union is welcomed and encouraged. Anyone being rude will be given a warning and possibly black listed. Including the people for the union. Be warned.
Current Union Price: (as at 20 March 2007) 30k
For: Oshousama_Raistlin prettyslavegirl dakalakawaka Twiganut Snozberry Dreamsicle Fiznit
Neutral: Israk
Against: Silent Comet (Talk to her and be nice to her: she makes polite, intellectual arguments against the union. I commend her fully. 3nodding ) Drackmeria Lemon Warlord (has been given a warning for rudeness)

To generate interest:
To win a donation letter for May 06 (contains the Angelbow and Chain of Command), simply send me a trade for 10 gold and whenever you roll 6 (six) six-sided dice you will have a chance to win these items.
If you get a total of 36 (all die came up with 6), you win! biggrin
(No, you don't need to send me 10 gold for every time you roll the dice. You only need to send the trade once, and you will forever be in the running to win the letter)
Who's in the competition: Israk Twiganut LyallAurion ameshinju OurHeroXero
Good luck!

Since the number of angelbows available on gaia is fixed, and the number of people who want it is continually increasing, as is the amount of gold on gaia, isn't inflation going to happen whether I do this or not? Looking forward to your response. 3nodding

That reminds me...
Does anyone know if Gaia ever gives an official number of the amount of limited items there are? Like only 13,473 of X item...

Wouldnt that be like a murderer saying the person was going to die sooner or later, so they thought theyd just speed the process of their death up? I have no problem with inflation as long as it is un-altered, it plays its role. Im sure I have played my part in inflation before. But that was just me, and I wasnt teamed up with others. How would you like it if you were questing for an item and all of a sudden a group of people got together and jacked the price way up? Say you were questing for a nitemare scarf and I went and bought all of the ones on the MP and jacked the price up a few hundred K. Wouldnt that bother you and make you made at me? That would be no differetn then what you are trying to organize. But afterall why shouldn't I do that? Inflation is going to happen anyways so why not just help it along.

That would be no differetn then what you are trying to organize. But afterall why shouldn't I do that? Inflation is going to happen anyways so why not just help it along. In order of your questions: 1. Yes. 2. You are taking the analogy to an extreme that I would never have applied this reasoning to. It's sort of like when teachers at school go "oh, so if So-and-so jumped off a cliff, you would too?" after you say that you only called X a certain name because X called you a name too. Obviously I am against a murderer killing people "just because they were going to die anyway". But I am only as against a murderer killing people with the reasoning stated above as a murder is dissimilar to inflation. My point? This particular analogy is irrelevant, and its only function seems to be to incite anger and an intense emotional response. I would like to keep this argument formal and polite. 3. Parts of what you say are true: initially, the effect of this union will be to increase the minimum price of the angelbow. Many people will sell their angelbows at 40k instead of, say, 33.987k. But it also encourages standardisation: sellers who try to sell their angelbow at a price higher than 40k will be less likely to sell their item, and so will be encouraged to lower their price to match the union's 40k in order to sell their angelbows. Please note that, currently, 40k is approximately the median price of the angelbow, once both cheaper and more expensive sellers are taken into account. So instead of a slow, incremental 100 gold at a time increase every week over time, there will be a sudden jump to 40k at which point the price will remain stable for a longer period: giving questers a non-moving gold value to aim for. (Personally I would prefer a non-moving target while I quest for gold to buy an item, because then I will not get frustrated that the 1.5 million gold I had gathered was suddenly not sufficient because the cheapest seller is now 1.6 million.) Furthermore, unionisation is a situation where both parties can potentially win: A seller of the angelbow will not have to worry about a loss if the value of the angelbow suddenly dips down, since the union will purchase any angelbows below 40k, keeping the price from going DOWN as well as UP. For a quester, wouldn't it also be frustrating to know that the item you quested for and just purchased at X price had suddenly gone down in value? In conclusion to my argument, unionisation and standardisation is an overall good thing for both buyers and sellers despite the often negative connotations associated with it. Again, looking forward to your response. wink

Quote: "oh, so if So-and-so jumped off a cliff, you would too?". i cant remember where i saw a comic which answered that line but i remember the answer went something along the lines of: well if he didnt get hurt and it looked fun then yes.... but as a general rule for cliff jumping, being myself a person who has jumped from a number of them, make sure there is water below or that the cliff is not more than 15 feet(and evevn still thats iffy), and that the water is at least 12 feet deep(as long as your jumping from 30 feet thats a safe-ish amount of water) also check that there is no debris/ large rocks in the water near or around where you are planning to jump. also have a friend nearby incase something goes wrong. so if you are going to do something stupid do it safely, also please note i am not encouraging you to do dangerous activitys, even if i find them fun.
